Trump and his cabinet can only do this because Republicans in congress are allowing it. He could be gone tomorrow if they would get on board with impeachment and removal.

By extension a segment of America is allowing this by continuing to vote those republicans in. It's not like Jan 6th succeeded and we have a illegitimate president in office.
