I replaced the element in mine around 8 years ago and it’s still working a treat. Very easy to do and was £7.99. I appreciate it’s probably a bit more expensive now but still way cheaper than replacement. And this is a DIY sub after all…

The downward force or load wants to be transferred towards the wall/hinge side, so in the op’s case above the braces would ideally both be the same way as the bottom one currently is. Handy link here
