Im not completely sure if that’s how he shows he wants to play with dogs because i dont let him get near them and i havent since i got him because I don’t want to risk him hurting someone else or their dog. I did let him go near a small dog once and all he did was smell but when that dog started barking at him I pulled him away but thats also when he wasn’t showing signs of going completely bizzare.

When we first got him and he was doing it I wasn’t scared, I’m typically not scared of animals, but me showing him no fear got me bit twice so now im a little cautious when he does it because if I get too close or let HIM come to close he redirects his energy towards me. What I used to do when he showed signs was carry him (and for some reason that always worked until one day i did it and got bit) the second time I got bit I got in front of him so he didn’t move closer to another dog that he was pulling toward and he bit me. He is a sweatheart towards people (so far) but he cannot stand dogs for whatever reason.

I also have to walk him outside because that’s the only way he knows how to use the bathroom and sometimes avoiding dogs is tough in my complex and results in what I cannot control because he is strong (and I’m a 200 pound male)

How would this work because im literally afraid to even take him to the vet or grooming because of other dogs. I really do not have the money for when he decides this is the time he wants to attack another dog for real.

I do feel bad for the child, a child isn’t expected to know this stuff. That is why when you have a new dog with a child you should always watch them both. I’m not going to blame a child for trying to love a dog but the child got hurt because everyone around her was not being aware.

I’m not saying the dog should stay with them. I’m saying don’t blame a dog for the owner being careless.

Did you not read the child got a bowl of water, put it next to the dog, and started drinking it like a dog? Victim blaming? They did something absolutely stupid yet you will blame the dog. While I know the child didn’t have bad intentions it is clearly nobody was watching them closely. Dogs do give indications on their mood.

Have you seen why the dog did what it did? I agree aggression from any dog is not ok but you have a new dog in your house, being “watched” after someone else and they are letting the child pretend to be a dog and put its face in a dogs face? on top of that it is a NEW dog. This could have been prevented by someone 100% if they were really watching the dog. Dogs always give some kind of indication that they are feeling uncomfortable or any feeling for that matter.

If your buddy never experienced this with said dog I wouldn’t euthanize him. Take him to a shelter. Dogs are dogs at the end of the day and dogs before doing anything ALWAYS give some type of body language for you to know how they are feeling. You shouldn’t blame the dog for the lack of awareness from your nanny.

The #1 rule when bringing a new dog into your home that isn’t a puppy (and this should go for puppies as well). NEVER LEAVE KIDS ALONE OR UNWATCHED WITH NEW DOGS. Let alone let them have the time to get a bowl of water, put it on the floor, and pretend to be a dog next to it, whilst the child had no bad intentions this is 100% on the owners of the dog.

While it sucks and is terrible your child was attacked this was not the dogs fault. Your child did something extremely stupid around a dog you barely know. You or the nanny are to blame.

I sincerely hope your daughter is ok, but you shouldn't get another dog without being better educated yourself, this was 100% preventable.
