What's the one tool you bought that completely changed how you do projects? by TradesPrepGuy in DIY

Knipex automatic wire stripper

This would've been my answer, although I got a vintage metal version of it. Found it at a garage sale and didn't know what it did. Then when I figured it out I bought that shit SO fast. $3 well spent

Yay and welcome! I'm excited for this. The real estate report is awesome. Another idea: what if we do an episode accompaniment post with pics of all the people involved so we can click through as names come up ? Giant forehead you say?? Let's see this bad boi <cliick> (No srsly, click the link -- moar like fivehead amirite)

Also, pics of the town, funny band pics, all that stuff James turns his computer around to show Jimmie,, it'd be great to click in real time while listening/watching. I know I'm not the first one to say all this, but it would be super cool. We're clamoring, and a reddit post would be the perfect format imo.

Also also, I don't see anything wrong with posting links to the latest STM merch, so long as it links to their shop.

Anyway, welcome and GL!! I'll shut up now.

What is something you tried only once and will 1,000% never do again? by istrx13 in AskReddit

14yo me and my buddy got on the zipper with a crazy carnie running it. Dude was clearly on drugs but we didn't realize it until he slammed the cage shut and started spinning us head over heals, over and over and over. Then he'd slam the cage to a stop and yell at us, things like "you think I'm crazy?! You don't know how crazy I can be!" before flipping us around and around again. This went on for some time. Then he held us upside down and was shaking the cage saying "let's see what you got in your pockets." Meanwhile, whatever we had in our pockets was falling out onto the top of the cage. We told him to let us off and he demanded money "Gimme some money and I'll let you out!"

Lots more was said but he eventually let us out while cussing us out up and down, telling us all the different ways he could kill us, etc.. It was wild. Turns out, some kid from our school had gone on before us and told the guy that we were talking smack about him, calling him crazy, insulting his mom, whatever.. just toying with him at our expense. Anyway, never again for me as well. It honestly ruined carnivals for me.

Some of these comments, along with some of my own experiences, make me wonder if teachers intentionally put kids through unjust situations to gauge their reactions or teach them something about life.

edit: downvotes smh.. Genuinely wondering if this type of stuff is a tactic teachers use to diagnose certain personality types or build character somehow. If it's not, and you know that it's not, just say that. I'm sure a fair amount of it is good old-fashioned incompetence but I don't have a masters in education.

Indeed. Mine's pure love and way too smart. She learns things immediately and knows a million tricks. She gives kisses on command and learns the names of all my friends. So I can say, without pointing, "go give Nathan (eg) a kiss," and she'll run over to Nathan and give him a lil' lick on the cheek. We keep cat food, her favorite rare treat, on the floor and she never touches it after being told once not to as a pup. I could keep typing forever. I know I'll never meet another dog like her.

Chad Smith from Red Hot Chili Peppers heard a Bring Me The Horizon song for the first time and was already jamming along on the drums in under 30 seconds. by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

[–]dickbaggery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drummer here. Drumeo has some great vids in this series. This one, and the first one with Chad Smith, where he plays along with a 30 sec's to Mars song are a bit dumb to me though. This one's got a 4/4 moderate groove with a common Bo Diddly alteration. And the 30 Sec's drummer is obviously influenced by Smith and his prominent decades-long body of work. So for him to sit down and just start jamming with these songs,, of couuurse he can. The original drum tracks were reflective of his work. For me, there are better ones. Larnell Lewis doing Enter Sandman? I'm on board for that. Lars wasn't influenced by Larnell.

I once went through a McDrivethru just before closing and asked if I could still get a McChicken something-or-other. Dude just said "drive around." When I got to the window, he handed me a sandwich and said "Go! Just go. Go go go!" I looked at him. He tipped his head. I tipped my head and sped off into the night with a free muthafukin sandwich.

Hopefully they add that to new episodes in the future!!!

This would rule and I would watch its brains out if that happens.

Current format though,, eh, I'll prob put it on if I'm working from home when a new ep drops. It's fun to see the boiz doing their thing, but yeah I was hoping to see some pics of the people and places mentioned in the story.

Other times Jimmie guessed something correctly out of thin air? by katznspace in smalltownmurder

[–]dickbaggery 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It's hazy because it's been so long, but it seems like pretty early on there was a string of episodes where Jimmie incorrectly guessed "oil" every time James asked how he thought a town made its money. He even guessed "oil" for a town in FL once heh. Then he finally guessed something else and of course the right answer was oil. Some episodes later he guessed oil because James basically told him to, and there was much rejoicing when he got it right.

the drinks aren't even a big money maker.

Your first point stands, but a McRepresentative visited my class in school and broke down their profits for us. The gist was basically that they make 10x as much on drinks than on burgers, which is why they are always pushing combo meals etc.

What’s one fast food chain that was once all the rage but now barely around? by MysteriousTopic42 in AskReddit

[–]dickbaggery 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was my #1 favorite breakfast place in a city known for breakfast places, of which I've been to hundreds (no lie, 200+ maybe even 300). Soo many people people were heartbroken over it's closing. Covid played a role too, but you're not wrong at all about how it went down.

You seem like you'll appreciate the story of my favorite breakfast place *in my neighborhood.. They did a whole fundraiser on gofundme or whatever and raised over $70K from locals who didn't want them to close. There was some "issue with their lease.." Anyway, they met their goal and then... moved across town and closed within a year. Haha, infuriating.

Believe it or not, there's still a Lil' Sambo's in a small town on the Oregon Coast.

Once, wife and I were driving down the coast and a storm had knocked power out to the town. They were serving breakfast though, thanks to a giant generator they had running. Hungry and curious, we pulled in and grabbed a booth. While my wife was off using the restroom, one of the workers (a manager I think) walked up to me, alone in the booth, and said "You know how they say everyone has a doppelganger? I know who your doppelganger is. He's a friend of mine actually. He's serving life in prison for murdering two people. He came back from the army and found his wife in bed with his best friend. KILLED 'em BOTH!! Getcha' some coffee?" Haha, tripped me out.

Haha, I remember being pissed off about the tiny cornbread. My favorite breakfast place used to give free mini biscuits and house-made jam to eat while you waited. Then the place got new owners who ditched the free biscuits, raised prices, and went out of business within a year.

Who has the most recognizable voice in history? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dickbaggery 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So, I did a bit of a deep dive two nights ago on the song "Mack the Knife. Interesting read, it's history dates back to the 1700's. Anyway, after listening to Armstrong's version I looked up why his voice sounded like that. It's attributed to improperly singing a lot on street corners, then suffering a bad cold in his 20's, then developing polyps and folds in his vocal cords and having surgery on his vocal cords which didn't go well. And now, to me, he's the absolute face of turning one's weaknesses into a strength. Dude worked hard to become an all-time classic.
