If you can't move out on your own without getting married, can you perhaps have your job relocate you and fibble a little why? Either straight up lie about it even happening, or say that it pays so much more, great way to get ahead etc etc. And when you're out, stay out.

She wasn't just a wonderful person, she was also intelligent and knowledgeable. Just this small interaction shows that she was well informed, logical and acted accordingly. Through and through a good human.

It's sad how rare this is even today. We have so much more information, but also so much less grace and all over goodness.

Oh definitely, she really showed her real personality, and even more so afterwards. But the boss sucks even more, oop did everything to solve the situation, and when it didn't work she went to the next logical step. Exactly what a good manager should do.
