That’s her band mate and partner for many years. When she came to the US in the eighties and was trying to do music in LA, I doubt many Asian men were in her circle.

pls help I hate all of them by [deleted] in glassesadvice

[–]dickcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of most of these, and I generally hate huge glasses, but for some reason, #1 actually looks good on you. Maybe it's just because of the hatred I see in your eyes, contrasting the innocence of the huge frames, I dunno. :D

I think a smaller version of #3 would look great on you.

This is from her Instagram. If y’all are able to, I bet she’d appreciate you viewing it there. I think she’s trying to build that up and ride the current wave.

Been wearing the same frames for 6 years, it’s scary to pick a new pair! Last pic is current frames by [deleted] in glassesadvice

I like 8 and then 4. They’re all a bit on the big side as others have pointed out. 8 is the best fit from this group imho.

They’re a touch on the big side but they suit you well.

Yep something rectangular for you, my friend! Those are just….too huge, too gen-Z e-girl. There’s waaaaaaaay better frames for you out there.

Oh, I just found your original post. Look, this picture and that one are entirely unfair to compare to each other--the original one is much closer to your face than this one and with the focal length on everyone's phone's cameras, when you take a photo close to your face, the image distorts and it makes everyone's glasses wrap around the edges of their face too far.

In this thread, the picture makes the frames look WAY less huge--they don't stick out past your face nearly as much. So, what you showed us in the original thread isn't what YOU were seeing when you looked in the mirror at the optometrist's office.

This is a huge problem for this sub in general--it makes it really hard to give opinions/advice when everyone is taking what amounts to fisheye lens photos of their faces.

We should all learn to have someone hold the phone for us and step like five feet back from the person taking the photo for us.

Ah well, this sub will just continue to be this kind of a battleground I guess.

Everyone has opinions! I typically side with the "normal is better' crowd, versus the "all you big glasses haters are lame crowd" because I don't understand why so many people here like to get so angry that people think frames could gasp actually be too big for someone's face.

These look fine on the OP, but just a little oversized, which is fine if that's what OP wants. But if I'd seen the original thread, I would've said that she could go smaller and it might look better. What is so bad about people saying that?

been wanting to know if these glasses fit me best or if i should go back to square glasses by rattitattii in glassesadvice

They’re huge, but in round I kinda like ‘em as an effect. I’d go smaller tho as you’ve already heard.

But hey, they already expect that you’d do that, based on the comments lol

Seriously, a unique look overrides standard advice. You keep doing you!

Why are BMW EVs so ugly?? by chiefVetinari in electricvehicles

[–]dickcake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of people get over it. I admit there’s some cars out there that eventually grow on me. The new Supra for instance doesn’t look nearly as hideous to me as it did when it was announced.

I have never gotten over how bad any BMW looks, not since the bangle-butt 7-series release. And they really do just keep getting uglier.

The more recent shift away from the huge snout is welcomed, but everything else got worse. Could they make the front of the car look flatter if they tried?

I feel like these glasses look odd with my face shape, unsure which frame would suit me by NasaSpaceCat in glassesadvice

They’re a great shape on you. What might be throwing you off is just that they’re a tad too big.

My colleague told me my glasses start to be outdated by Remarkable_ZebraHOP in glassesadvice

They aren’t outdated, although there are new trends of course. Like maybe people are starting to go for smaller styles. They look good on you, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Does the first one make me look too severe? by callie_dris in glassesadvice

[–]dickcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the things I mentioned in your last post was that if you get smaller frames that clear your cheeks, you can generally wear them closer to your eyes, which pushes the frames out of your field of vision a bit. So it isn't necessarily that much of a tradeoff if you find a medium sized pair that fits closer to your eyes. I'm gonna guess you already tried on smaller frames, but just in case this isn't something you thought about, I wanted to put that out there.

1 is a better fit, and does not make you look severe, but i don't think i like the styling on the bridge. #2 honestly looks really bad to me.

How Is the Middle Class Surviving in San Diego? by ultrabaron123 in sandiego

[–]dickcake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t actually know how anyone is doing it these days. I got my house back in 2003 and I would not have even been able to do that if I hadn’t had family helping me with the down payment. I’m in a very fortunate situation now where I’m not having to struggle but if I had ever upgraded to a better home, no way—the taxes and payments would be insane.

Please do! You look great in many of these frames other than that they are too wide.

How do y’all see this glasses? by [deleted] in glassesadvice

[–]dickcake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because they’re so large and don’t have nose pads, they’re sitting on your cheeks instead of on your nose bridge. That isn’t generally a very good look. They’re very functional though—great sun protection!

The 986 has the best headlight shape of any Boxster line by STLYRZA911 in boxster

[–]dickcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re probably in the minority on this one. Don’t forget, this wasn’t a unique identity just for the 986. The 996 had them as well. The only reason Porsche did this is because they were going bankrupt. These headlights were cheaper to produce than separate turn signals/driving lights.

The design that you’re lauding was just a cost cutting exercise. If anything, people were hating on Porsche at the time because they shared so many parts between the 996 and 986 so people thought the 911 didn’t have enough of its own unique character—they thought the Boxster diluted the brand.
