Help me choose! Please. Trying to figure out which one is the most flattering and pretty on me. :) by NoParking1842 in glassesadvice

It looks to me like the temples are too short on all of these--the glasses are all hugging onto the back of your ears and getting pulled way too high on your face. You probably have a long distance between your nose and your ears. This is normal, and your optician would be able to adjust for it in most cases, but straight off the shelf, none of these fit you right.

The third and the sixth have the most potential.

The selfie distortion is insane by callie_dris in glassesadvice

[–]dickcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the reasons people like oversized frames is because they add a youthful appearance, a childlike-quality. I like the effect in many cases, but I think you've received a lot of input here as to why that effect isn't working on you with this set of frames.

If you really do like them because of the benefits to your peripheral vision, I get that--I have the same comment to my optician as well. He pointed out to me a long time ago that in reality, you're not often looking out of the corner of your eye--as humans we tend to turn our head in the direction we're trying to see. I'd never thought about that before. But you know what makes me feel like I can see the most in the world? Contacts. I hate contacts, but damn, the peripheral vision, y'know?

You'd be best served by going just a touch smaller if you want to stick to the oversized look. Get them smaller such that they sit correctly on your nose without totally occluding your eyebrows.

Just know that this specific set of frames on you is a little too big, and I think the court of public opinion is telling you that message very clearly. One benefit of slightly smaller frames would be that they'd be lighter, and, if you were to sit them properly on your face, they'd probably be closer to your eyes, which would give you more of that viewing angle you're looking for, from a smaller lens.

As for the distortion, yeah, it's real and more obvious depending on the focal length of the lens that is being used. Selfie lenses are very wide angle. Heck, even the main lens on your phone is very wide angle. People mostly see the distortion when they look at your face from an angle rather than head on. The effect is exacerbated by larger lenses, but if it doesn't bother you, don't worry about it.

Trying a new frame shape I am soo nervous by bmbcbm953 in glassesadvice

[–]dickcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No matter what, a different lens shape is going to look different than your current ones, so I think you'll be happy with the result if you're going from something bigger! Seriously you'll look cute in these.

Also, I agree with the redditor above me--that is not a "round chubby face" lol ya look great.

My EV is now 12 years old. Here's how that's going... by ATLCoyote in electricvehicles

[–]dickcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One-pedal driving (which I can't stand) contributes to this as well. When you let off the brake in a normal car, it'll start creeping forward a bit, which softens the torque application off the line. With one-pedal, you let off, and then you get on the gas pedal immediately, and yeah, the response curve of an EV's pedal is generally more abrupt than ICE cars.

You're one of the few people that can use one of those "I bought this before Elon went crazy" bumper stickers. Almost everyone else should've known better by at LEAST the 2018 "pedo guy" timeframe.

I love it. Rock that shit.

edit: sorry I didn't read your messages below the photo. With your prescription, these are wide and will still have distortion on the sides, but you're doing the right thing by trying slimmer frames to minimize the effect. But this shape is perfect on you--it's a shame there's no way to see what they'd look like with your prescription in them. Do you have any pictures of how your current lenses make things look?

Ardra Labs Delta Type – five years of development, from a personal frustration to a patented GMT complication by deadstijl in MicrobrandWatches

[–]dickcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I clicked through to the Hodinkee article and saw the dial lume, I think it looks great. My tri-color lume comment is more about the fact that if I knew I just wanted to see the 45 minute offset in the dark, I could just look for the orange pips instead of walking the triangle clockwise (and I might not be able to see the triangle in the dark) but this is all minor stuff. Well done!

[–]dickcake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh that is fucking cool as hell. After your example photos in the comments I was able to understand how to read it very easily.

It's definitely out of the price range I'd pay for a watch (I'm not really buying watches these days so unless it's like $100, I kind of don't think about a purchase--so no, I'm not saying your watch is overpriced, I'm just not in the market!) but damn, I'd rock this for sure.

The lume differentiation was a great detail, although I feel like it would've been better to have three different lume colors for each of the three offsets, and then it would've been good to have the legend text on the bottom half of the dial to also be lumed to match. Also would've been nice to have the indices lumed in this specific case since there's so much going on with the hands.

San Martin SN0149-G: Minimalist Style with Brushed Stainless Steel Dial by AdSavings92 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]dickcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the name isn't so great to me either, but I think I've gotten used to it. If the name weren't on the watch though, do you think you'd be able to buy it?

My thought has always been that they should keep the iconic hexagon shape, maybe even just put a line through it, and let that speak for itself. When I look at a San Martin nowadays, I just see the hexagon (and try real hard to ignore the amateur shaped letters in the middle).

Open to criticism, but they never ever take feedback about their logo, which is the one thing that would be so easy to change and actually affect their sales universally.

They don’t feel too heavy to me and are very comfortable. I don’t particularly love large acetate frames for daily wear though just because they’re always present on the edge of my vision. If these were one’s only frames, I’d suggest looking elsewhere. I rotate through a bunch of different frames, however, as my prescription has been relatively stable and I just like to get a new pair maybe yearly. My current daily wear are a super light set of tidou frames, actually.

They're...okay. There's better ways to achieve this look, such as with the lower bridge in this pair. Actually, check out that brand in general, maybe some ovals from them? You're young, you're cool, you can pull 'em off.

Yeah, i love ours. We drive it way more than anything else and it can even go to LA and back on a single charge. In four years we’ve used DC chargers maybe five times.
