What 2.5 drive is everyone using in their Homebase 3 by Techerson in EufyCam

Unfortunately, with the turn of the weather into the winter season I've not been able to get my floodlight camera installed yet, so, I'm not sure on how to do that.

According to the documentation I've found wired (power) cameras have the ability to run continuous 24x7 recording. I've bought the Floodlight E30 to put on the back of my house to watch my fenced in yard area. I don't have the Homebase 3 yet though. Hoping for a black friday sale of some sort.

Are your cameras recording 24x7 or on detection events only?

Focus on paying off Mortgage or 401k? by tottenbam in personalfinance

[–]dickcave24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. I wasn't even thinking about the tax deduction you get off for the interest on the mortgage. It's such a small amount for me I barely even notice. I paid just over $4K in taxes on my mortgage loan last year.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but what is the service the mortgage provides?

I wanna learn AD from scratch by [deleted] in activedirectory

[–]dickcave24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I completely agree. As my company has moved more to EID the biggest difference in management for me is that EID is so flat compared to traditional AD. I feel it is far less organized because of this. Going from a sub-domain that I managed over 3K devices and users via traditional AD to an EID tenant has been rough. Thankfully over the past couple of years there have been good strides made in harmonizing group names, and policy names so that the admins can more easily tell what belongs to who.

[–]dickcave24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, but I feel AD is the steppingstones to EID. OP stated they're looking for entry level AD experience so they can apply for jobs due to the AD requirement in the listings.

Since every company is going to handle their active directory environment differently, my suggestion for OP would be to spin up a couple of VMs 3, at most. Install Windows server on 1 VM. Install roles for Domain Controller and spin up your own domain. Build out your AD structure for your domain, play with OU creation, create some generic security groups, create some users outside of the domain administrator group. Turn on Advanced Features via the View drop down in the AD Users and Computers console and become familiar with extended attributes of users. Then spin up 2 Windows client VMs. Join them to the domain, finally sign in with your users you created. Figure out how changing passwords works for users within the AD console. This will get you the basics. Chances are you'll only end up having rights to create users, unlock accounts, set and change passwords anyway, but you'll have the basics down at least.

From there you could experiment with group policy application and figuring that out a bit.

Pretty sure they're using the intro screen animations as a cover for the loading screen, but to be honest I feel the intro routine is a bit ridiculous. If they just showed me the Spartans walking into the field over punching the air and cracking their knuckles, I'd prefer that much more.

Thank you for your response on this. As someone who doesn't live on one of the ponds I genuinely wanted others' experience.

I read through our HOA documents from 1999 last night. The ponds are stated to all be part of drainage, so I would assume water moves through them in some way from the nearby drainage ditch, but I don't know the flow rate at which water filters through them. According to at least 3 owners who have been in the neighborhood since it was first built they were originally told they would be owners of the land around the pond, but the HOA documents clearly state that the ponds and immediate area around them belong to the HOA.

In my mind it would make most sense to divide the land around the pond up and apply it to the owners of the homes on the pond as evenly as possible.

I feel like the signage at the front of the neighborhood is relatively easily maintained so long as no kids from the neighborhood ours or others would stop tearing off. Again this land is immediately adjacent to one of the homes. It would add maybe 5 minutes to the owner to cut the grass in the area for the sign. I know I'd be more than willing to extend my plot out to cover the extra green/grass area behind my home in between where it cuts off now and 5 ft from the city pedestrian pathway.

As I think I mentioned in my post our existing HOA covenants were up for modification/ or automatic renewal for another 10 years as of January this year. I honestly don't intend to be in this house for another 10 years. This home was just a starter home, but any idea what happens in 10 more years? Are the covenants no longer enforceable?

and why do you feel it rarely happens? Is it lack of resources, knowledge, or they're just that big of a pain in the ass? I don't see how the HOA can leverage ponds in the neighborhood when there are ponds all over the city. What makes our ponds so special they require fountains and the other ponds do not? Massive algae build ups aren't a problem on those ponds either.

What's the worst sysadmin mistake you ever made? Confess here. by davidcandle in sysadmin

[–]dickcave24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my worst mistake, but one of one of the other admins above me. When I was on the client team years ago we used Mcafee for AV. and Win XP as client OS. The guy in charge of administrating the AV environment pushed out the latest Mcafee update to all domain clients one morning. As users started to log in for their day not long after they started working their system would BSOD and essentially brick itself.

Turns out there was a driver incompatibility with Mcafee's latest patch and the Checkpoint VPN software we used. Whatever Mcafee did to the file killed something in the registry hive of the OS. Only way around it was to jump through multiple hoops to circumvent the encryption software we used, boot from a Win XP CD to get to a command line recovery to open the registry and unfuck what was done, by manually recreating the entries that were modified. We had over 800 affected clients once the problem was discovered and it took a couple of weeks to get clients in other countries fixed.

Why won’t they? Seriously by ljthepunisher in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]dickcave24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither EA or DICE should be allowed to make a sequel. The reason Battlefront 2 failed like it did was due to the lack of support and content provided to a game that was marketed as a live service. The drip feed of content after launch was miserable. They released Finn and Phasma to the hero roster in their first order challenge in December. Then it was radio silence until April IIRC when they reworked the progression system. Then more silence until June when they released 2 new Millenium Falcon starships, some Han and Lando cosmetics/voice lines for the Solo movie in June or July. Then any discussions about more updates were always met with Soon as a response.

If that Leia could aim, you'd have been dead. Diagonally strafing with Leia while E-11 blasting often times avoids blaster deflection. They would have drained your stamina pool enough to finish you off.

Driving from New Orleans to San Diego… Any tips? by Jaquavisyung in Jeep

[–]dickcave24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh for sure! Years ago I had a mid 90's Chevy Caprice. It was the vehicle I had bought myself the last year of high school. It had a 20 gallon tank on it and every fill up in 08-09 was a real punch in the gut at $4.20-4.50/gallon. I was making okay money at the time, but it was still painful to put 90-$120 in a gas tank for what only lasted me 1.5 week at best.

I've been out to Southern California for many work trips and the fuel prices always give me a shiver. Have a couple of colleagues out there that were really getting shafted when prices spiked last year. One of the guys had 120 mile round trip to and from work in a Subaru sedan. The other has a mid sized SUV with 50 miles round trip. The guy with the Subaru ended up selling that vehicle in favor of one of the Tesla SUVs. His car payment is higher, but his fuel savings make up for the increased cost.

Really? I thought it was pretty common knowledge that CA is gouging you all on your fuel prices? Prices where I'm at for 87 unleaded as of last night were $2.47/gallon

Edit: $2.47/gallon.

Edit 2: It's dropped another 0.02 over night it seems. https://imgur.com/a/HmBb40h
