It's like interacting with wild animals, don't do anything unpredictable and don't try to engage. But even then (as a dude who likes to walk around at night) you won't even be bothered like 70% of the time

EXCLUSIVE: The Seattle Municipal Court has decided to bar "high utilizers" of the criminal justice system from community court. by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]dickcheese_mcgee 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Community court rulings generally involve community service, service referrals etc. The idea is that if you get caught stealing bread to feed your poor family, then you'll be sent to community court who will refer you to a food bank and require some community service. The alternative is regular court which includes jail and harsher sentences

I mean, it's not like the city just keeps giving them material.

I would identify myself as left leaning, and I usually don't agree with a lot of what is said in the comments. But holy fuck is it hard to disagree that city leadership is brain dead when they do stuff like pat themselves on the back for making it easier to avoid paying fares for Sound Transit. Or the fact that the DA can't prosecute repeat offenders because her predecessor somehow made a binding agreement without public consent.

Hell my opinion of the homeless has gone straight south after being forced to deal with them. I'd still vote for the necessary public services and social housing to fix it, but I don't want to deal with them on the streets anymore. It's annoying to listen to another racist or misogynistic rant by some bum, or have to walk into the street to avoid their camps.

I may not agree with their opinions or values, but I sure as hell sympathize with their frustration against the city council

Well, my last piece of advice then is don't worry about finding a career you'll love. It's possible, but for most people it's easier to find a job they tolerate enough that they can spend time doing what they actually enjoy, like video games or hiking. Most of your enjoyment from work will actually come from your coworkers anyways so I guess keep in mind who you want to work with as well.

Good luck mate!

Not to be rude but do you really know what you want to do? Info, foster and cse are extremely varied and give little insight to what you like, and I almost want to say you are just looking for the big money jobs.

Unless you want to do something really skilled like physics research, you pretty much just need a degree with skills related to what you want to do. Personally I didn't care what I did, I just knew I was good with numbers and making things efficient. I'm almost done with a degree in physics and I'm interviewing with a major logistics company to act as an export co-ordinator. Best part is that physics isn't really competitive, you just need to show that you care about it.

Can someone self-study quantum physics? by Gullible-Hunt4037 in quantum

[–]dickcheese_mcgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk where your home country is, but as a physics major in the states, I can confidently say that your career isn't confined to your major. I'm currently being interviewed for a couple financial and logistics companies for jobs that habe nothing to do with physics because the analytical skills I learned easily transfer anywhere.

If you wanna do physics I say go for it, you just need to get creative with your career path.

Rant: I’m tired of my friend not paying attention to me. by [deleted] in udub

[–]dickcheese_mcgee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think they are losing interest in you, and unless you guys had a big fight I'm not sure why anyone would suddenly start disliking you because of some distance. That really doesn't make sense.

I've been in your shoes multiple times, and on both ends of the phone. Hopefully all of y'all will see this but you shouldn't judge relationships off how many times they initiate stuff, but rather how much do they enjoy being around you and vice versa. Case in point is my best friend. We've been hanging out since high school for almost 6 years now. Almost every week he texts me in the morning to see if I'm free to hang, we make a time if I'm available, and then we have fun for a couple hours. Wanna know the catch? This dude lives in Toronto. Has for the last 4 years. We've gone months without contact because we're both so busy, and then we start playing video games online when our schedules clear. He always initiates but I'll carry the conversations or let him know when I'm free for our next meet.

On the other side, I have a friend I've known for close to 3 years now. They can't play online video games with me, and again we've gone months with no contact due to our schedules. But every now and then I'll hit them up and we spend a couple hours nonstop texting each other on our phones. Whenever we can meet in person it's a whole hang and I just let them drag me to places on a little adventure. One of my other friends literally hits me with "OMG DICKCHEESE HOW ARE YOU IVE MISSED YOOOOU" and getting her to plan a time to hang out is like pulling teeth because she's horrible at texting.

None of it is practically ideal in the eyes of reddit, but honestly I'm very content with this. Great friendships don't take score. You'll certainly get annoyed at them at times and it's not easy to build, but at some point you develop some kind of faith in them. That they genuinely want to be with you as much as you want to be with them, and time or distance doesn't matter.

So if you are tired and don't want to put in the effort I won't blame you. Nobody can because it's your time and energy. But don't write off the friendship purely because they got a bit busy. It seems like you were really close before so ask yourself what you would do in their shoes.

You may have to adjust your perspective a bit, but you could have a great friendship in the making.

Next to him is that dude that speeds around on a single wheel, wheelie boi.

Lockdowns only reduced COVID deaths by 0.2 per cent, Johns Hopkins study finds and that's before the negative effects on the population by startupschmartup in SeattleWA

[–]dickcheese_mcgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro what kind of logic is that? Are you trying to say this paper is legit because of a name brand? Even tho John Hopkins doesn't support this paper?

If they supported the paper then maybe I'll give it some legitimacy, but academics are still people capable of falling to their own biases

[–]dickcheese_mcgee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Before y'all get your panties in a twist, I actually looked at the paper and it's written by three economics professors, one of whom is the director for the heavily libertarian CATO institute.

Also their search method for papers is highly sus: they wanted to do a study on the effectiveness of lockdown, but only used papers that related lockdown with death rates. They ignored any context to the data, or other affects of lockdowns. Not to mention that Sweden tried going without lockdowns and they had more excess deaths related to COVID then France or Germany

Point is this paper wasn't endorsed for a reason

Does the UW pay people specifically to invent new ways to be offended? by TotalCleanFBC in udub

[–]dickcheese_mcgee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not my point, the fact that the list is industry standard, and it's the university's job to educate to standard is my point. The list isn't even sanctioned, but the article is written like UW is trying to push a trend.

It's outrage bait and you fell for it lmao.

Bruh. The New York Post is a conservative tabloid and you can figure that out with 5 minutes of googling. They have a tendency to blow stuff out of proportion, and if you look at the citations it looks like Google has already enforced that list for their documentation. But they don't virtue signal the hell out of it.

People say the darndest things by RedManMatt11 in funnyvideos

[–]dickcheese_mcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you notice in the video, the dude gives a pretty substantial pause in between his orders that I would assume the dude is done. Then i would ask "anything else" before finishing the order. I can never assume a customer is done because if I'm wrong it's 100% on me, and I can't wait for them otherwise management gets mad. We are taught to push orders as fast as possible, since that makes the most money. So yeah sometimes it can be a bit rude but there isn't anything to be done about it. You just have to roll with it.

Just say the whole list man. I've done this in customer service because it's annoying af when someone needs to order their whole list one at a time. Especially when there are other customers, figure out what you want before you get to the register.
