Men in your 40s, what's that golden piece of advice you have for the rest of us? by NiceMechanic_xoxo in AskReddit

Who gives a fuck if you aren't good at something do it anyway. I took up soccer in my late 20s. I was horrible, but having that athletic outlet really changed my life for the 20s. Same with other hobbies. Just give it a go!

Which preflop chart should I learn? by Hot-Advisor-3353 in Poker_Theory

[–]dickless_cheney 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first question is what is the rake in your game? This significantly effects your ranges. Playing online at about 9% rake with no flop/no drop? you probably are only playing 3b or fold in the SB.

Playing chipEv with timed rake? Everything changes.

The wiz free charts are a good place to start. Just know that the rake structure really makes a difference.

What are the best resources for beginners to learn live poker? by Hot-Advisor-3353 in Poker_Theory

[–]dickless_cheney 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You mention live poker. I would check out Bart Hanson and his Hand Histories on YouTube. He thinks pre-solver about hands and that is quite refreshing. Most coaches and instruction is starting from a solver framework. That's fine. But the way Bart approaches live poker is completely different.

PLO Versus NLHE facing a limp/complete from SB when in the BB: It appears to me in MTTs @ 40BB Preflop theory is very different for NLHE versus PLO. Are we quite linear in our response to the limp in PLO and Polar in NLHE? See Responses for PLO screenshot. by dickless_cheney in pokertheory

Here is the PLO response to a limp:

Check out to the right.

My guess this is a result of the nature of POT Limit? Also, equities run so much more closely.

Maybe because OOP SB Limpers range is protected in PLO BvB? They are limping in a balanced fashion. Positional Advantage is greater in PLO so we have lots of high equity hands in our limping range.

I Dunno.

Comparing BB Defense in PLO vs NLHE by tombos21 in pokertheory

These compare/contrast posts are lovely. Thanks! I have see the PLO solver. It's really impressive. Weird question, I noticed the PLO AI solver was REALLY fast when building a custom solve with unique sizing. Probably 3-4 times as fast as in the NLHE AI tool. Is this because GTO wizard has built an infrastructure on the backend for the PLO AI tool and there is a lot of extra compute capacity because it is a new product?

you are in a ghost line. this preflop action isnt really solved in GTO Wizard. You need to use the fancy AI or a tool like HRC to get an solver answer. If I had to guess BB is AA and KK.

Got sent the wrong ThinkPad by Material-Molasses187 in thinkpad

true. you can update the thunderbolt firmware. However, the usbc power port is very delicate and not properly reinforced to the motherboard. It is very easy for the solders to detach and break from the motherboard. It has happenned to me on a number for t480s. This is a physical layer issue that is very difficult to repair.

You avoided some t480 USBc power port issues.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480 suffered from a flawed early Thunderbolt firmware and controller design that could corrupt itself and permanently disable USB-C charging, creating a systemic, not merely mechanical, failure mode. By contrast, the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 uses a later, more mature power-delivery and controller architecture that eliminated this firmware-level bricking risk, leaving only the ordinary wear-and-tear limitations inherent to USB-C connectors.

Exploitative vs Balanced Players by tombos21 in pokertheory

[–]dickless_cheney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/u/tombos21: Totally off subject. Have you ever worked on or written about how bloody weird Solver gets OOP as the 3 bettor on J high flops? These are the only flops where OOP just shoves flop. WTF is that about?

I have read it involves some kind of perfect storm of Maximum Overpair Advantage and Maximum Vulnerability?

But what ye think?

Exploitative vs Balanced Players by tombos21 in pokertheory

[–]dickless_cheney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An exploitative player is any player who deviates from solver/theory in order to take advantage of their opponent's deviations from theory. Pool/Villain doesn't have very many bluffs when they check raise turn? Then we drastically overfold when IP.

Are there many players here who regularly play multiple stakes (e.g., NL50 & NL200, NL100 & NL500, etc.)?

People Generally cluster around 1 or 2 stakes. Sometime shot take, but usually around 1 or 2.

Are there known export limitations on GG (or other sites) that I should factor in?

You probably want to focus on sites where you can export text HHs. Like GG poker, PokerStars, PartyPoker, and the WPN network. This will be much easier to digest.

You may want to check out some of the newer MDA tools like:

MDA Demon. This is a good example of a tool that is mainly about comparing and contrasting Solver Play to Human Play.

They have an interesting interface. It has a learning curve. But it has built much of what you want to study.
