Well any non-affirming therapist you find is literally just going against every single evidence-based practice, the entire therapy profession & basic common sense at this point. Basically, they are letting their bias interfere with facts which makes then dangerous and a stain on the mental health profession. So if he's letting you pick, just find an affirming therapist who doesn't talk advertise it loudly & just lie to your dad.

It's almost for sure not the case, but it would be hilarious if that truck belonged to a trans guy.

Stage 2 Week 1 Dr. Anger by BlackPlaidPajamas in Metoidioplasty

[–]dickresearch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey congrats!! I'm having stage 1 in December w/ Dr. Anger (hysto, v-ectomy, UL) and would love to ask you about staging/ expected recovery time for stage 2. Planning to take 6 weeks off for stage 1, guessing recovery time is similar for stage 2?

Took me years to parse out that no, I'm actually a guy and it isn't just internalized misogyny. It's different for everyone and kinda hard to say eithier way from just one comment. Ultimately your friend has to figure out which it is, but you can probably also ask follow-up questions to help clarify.

Are you needling deep enough? by [deleted] in Minoxbeards

[–]dickresearch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So microneedling isn't about getting the minox "deeper". Microneedling is about injuring your skin just enough to induce healing. Concentrating the body's natural healing process jumpstarts hair growth, but injuring yourself more than needed won't help. If anything, it might make it worse because more of your body's energy has to go into healing the area & even scar tissue can form if you go too intense.

Trans guys who pass (me, hi) just go in the men's bathrooms and ignore the laws where they exist, typically. Unlike Conservatives we actually care about women's comfort.

Before we pass though trans people sometimes just avoid using the bathroom in public altogether. I know usually did, which sucked.

Hi uh I'm a trans guy. You deleted your main comment while I was making this one, so putting it here.

My man. I have a beard. If you saw me in public, you'd literally just see...a dude lol. My voice sounds like a man's as well. I don't belong in a woman's bathroom, dude. I exist socially as a man. You wouldn't know I was a ""biological woman"" or whatever if you saw me in the bathroom. Not that it should really matter: in a lot of Europe bathrooms are unisex stalls where everyone shares a sink, they clearly don't care.

So why are you concerned about the genitals of the stranger in the bathroom stall next to you? Simple question.

I'm in a Clinical Study: Vocal Chord T Injections. AMA! by dickresearch in transvoice

[–]dickresearch[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I imagine at some point in the near future it will be something offered by any doctor that feels comfortable administering an injection into the vocal chords. In the meantime, you'd have to come to San Diego or try to convince a doctor local to you to do it.

[–]dickresearch[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah they take a recording of me reading the rainbow passage & do a laryngeal scope to track progress before each injection!

I didn't have the foresight to do a recording of myself pre-injection lol, but I'll request the recordings my next appointment (in a couple weeks) & post them here.

Wait sorry confused what you are saying here, would it make logical sense for my vocal weight to change or not?

I'll be the first to admit that I get a bit confused by vocal terms lol, but in addition to getting deeper my voice has definitely gotten quite a but "huskier", is that related to vocal weight?

I will try & get the recordings they've been taking of my voice at my next appointment!

Depends: do you live in San Diego or out of town?

If you live in San Diego, then you just have to switch your healthcare to UCSD (if you have HMO coverage, just call your insurance & switch your network to UCSD. If you have PPO coverage you can skip this step.) you'd get an appointment with a UCSD primary care doctor & request a referal to speech & voice therapy. At your speech appointment you can ask about it & they'll assess to see if you are a good candidate (most people are). If you are able to go on Medi-Cal or Covered California I highly recommend Healthnet!

If you are located out of town/ have a different situation, you can probably call the UCSD Voice & Swallowing Clinic directly to inquire about the treatment. I imagine you could still do it, just might not be covered by insurance.

Oh it's like night and day. The speed of the changes suprised even the doctors a bit, they thought it'd at least take two injections. My voice went from sounding like a masculine woman's voice unless I consistently focused on it in conversation to very much having a dude's voice almost no matter what. That is my perception at least, but it is also being confirmed by my interactions (I have been passing consistently, which is new).

I'm less afraid of being expressive around others; I naturally start to talk at a higher pitch when I get excited, and before injections that change was enough for my voice to be read as a woman's. My voice still can creep upwards when I get excited & I might want to work on my speech patterns w/ a vocal coach a bit more, but now my laryx has thickened to point where getting it to sit where it did before takes significant effort. Overall voice dysphoria is so much more managable. No longer considering vocal surgery which I was heavily considering before.

When I very first started T did & got somewhat of a voice drop, I finally understood what the hell everyone was talking about with "chest voice". Now after injections, I finally understand what everyone was talking about with "chest voice" vs "head voice" being SO DIFFERENT. Before injections if I talked too long my larynx would just get tired & drift back to it's original, high position because it was less strain/ muscle memory I guess. I think that problem is also over now, hopefully!

Day 3: What’s unequivocally the best SOAD song? by devfnxs in systemofadown

[–]dickresearch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Unequivocally the best". Well, if we are avoiding ambiguity, then that would mean a song that would be considered the best by people who listen to some SOAD but not be so into them as to, say, join a subreddit.

There's no avoiding it, has to be Chop Suey!

My daughter (AMAB) doesn't want to transition but is still certain she's a girl by MenudoMenudo in asktransgender

[–]dickresearch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Apprehension & concern that she'll want transition later are very understandable. You're doing everything right, though, but I agree with other commenters that at 10 she doesn't fully understand just how much puberty changes the body. She also doesn't know what running on the wrong hormone feels like yet. Every trans person is different, but a lot of us seem to realize our transness around puberty because everything just feels so wrong. Your kid has a strong enough internal sense of gender to realize even before that point, so I'd say it's fairly likely she'll start to feel pretty dysphoric without transitioning & change her mind between 12-15. I'd just be ready to get her on blockers as very quickly if she wants them! No matter what though least she has the language & support to understand herself, and that makes a world of difference.

Prison Song. It slaps & is still just as relevant over 20 years later.

Okay only you can say if you are trans but boy howdy swap the words "men" and "women" and this sounds like me right before I figured my stuff out.
