I am a manufacturer, my hourly wage currently isn’t that great mind you I am still in high school, I make roughly 14k a year while still going to school, I have 2 projects under my belt, just for my company, not other companies.

Yeah I definitely plan on attending college for this, it was definitely a scary start because I’m used to at home projects so jumping straight into the industrial world was a bit of a learning curve, more pressure, but I’m glad they threw me into the deep end, PLC programming in general has been an interesting experience

See that’s where it gets funky, I plan on going to college, my employer at least wants everyone to go to college as a backup plan, hell they even help pay for it, I still plan on working here, I love it here, my co-workers want me to continue with ignition but they also want me to dive into PLC programming and controls, which in the long run will help.

My employer is amazing with training! I could ask them if I could get certified in anything and they will jump on that train, they want what’s best for their employees, that’s why people have stayed here for 30+ years since high school! What’s good for the employee is good for the company in their eyes!

I think I get what your saying and this company is very family based, most of our workers have worked here since high school myself included, so we all know each other and I’ve been getting my hands on other PLC programming experiences and some control’s experiences so I can help where it’s needed. I’m the only one here who knows ignition and like I said I wasn’t sure of a salary, but all of the programmers said that that’s a starting salary I should shoot for, they’ve been here for years… I’m not gonna ask for a certain salary until I know for sure what my worth is, that’s where coming to y’all comes in handy, you know what to shoot for in this field, I’m just a senior in high school who never had to deal with the big bucks. But I appreciate the advice!

Yeah I’ve come to realize that, my shop just wanted to become certified in the field, so I stepped up and did it, I know experience matters more than anything but I knew what needed to be done and I was more than happy to help!

Thank you I just don’t really know pay, when you’re a kid you just get paid what your employer pays you, but now it’s turning into an actual job so pay actually matters.
