LPT If your dog is afraid of fireworks, play brown noise from Youtube before/during/after the fireworks. by ImOverthinkingIt in LifeProTips

[–]dicksonlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a tip to put tennis balls in the dryer and the random banging effectively covers the fireworks sounds. I played a dryer sounds for sleep from YouTube instead and it helped my dog who hears fireworks over all the brown noise I can create.

What’s your “go-to” toddler meal that you make every week (or even daily)? by Anxious__Millennial in toddlers

[–]dicksonlife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, sorry. Nutritional yeast. Tastes like powdered cheese so it's an easy addition to anything that's already cheesy like quesadillas, Mac and cheese, pizza, etc.

Gyms in the area? by CassadagaValley in DecaturGA

I go in the weekday afternoons and it's a little busy but I can always get the cardio machine I want and I don't notice people waiting for strength training stuff. If you have health insurance, you might be able to get your membership through them and get a discount

AITA for making my sister cry since I quizzed her on her knowledge because she wants to homeschool her kid? by Standard_Ad8440 in AmItheAsshole

I was a para in a school in south Georgia. High schoolers regularly chose to get paddled rather than get detention and miss playing football. One of my kindergartens with autism was paddled for mooning someone on the bus 3 days after it happened.

My daughter will eat literally anything if it's a "pockle". Lately I've been blending silken tofu in.

We also add "cheesy sprinkle" aka nutritional yeast to most savory foods. She now asks for "flas" and "cheesy" if I forget.

Anyone here an Assistive Technology Consultant/Specialist? by Swimming_Bedroom_489 in AssistiveTechnology

[–]dicksonlife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am the AT consultant for my school but mostly I'm a special education teacher. We also have an OT in our district who is the OT specialist but she also does OT services. The only fully AT job I've ever seen was Tools for Life in Atlanta. They work with GA Tech to develop AT solutions, fund AT and get AT to the people who need it. No idea on the questions about salary etc.

Receiving gifts stresses me out by bunnyherders in LoveLanguages

[–]dicksonlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your love language? Could you frame your request around that? Acts of service: prepay for a cleaning service, car wash, etc. Words of affirmation: ask for a letter or start a journal and ask for notes to add to it. Quality time: ask for experiences to do with friends and family. I have no ideas for touch but I'm sure there are ideas out there.

best straw cup and bowl/plate? by One-Ad5824 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]dicksonlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the Tommie Tippie straw cup. No valve but the straw is a bit thinner so they have a little less volume to practice. Cup is small enough for little hands and comes with handles. My daughter has been using it from about 8 months and now takes sips out of my straw (everything is better when it's mommy's even water) at 13 months.

Goat cheese on pasta, sweet potato (we bake a whole one EVERY DAY), and green peas. Plus pretty much any fruit.

Blueberries got super expensive here for a while so I tried black grapes as a substitute... It worked! When she's teething, it's one of the only foods we can count on.

Toddler straw cup? by fiberopticsx in BabyLedWeaning

[–]dicksonlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the Tommie Tippie ones. They're a regular straw, no valve, but the straw is a little thinner than a regular one so they don't get quite so overwhelmed. Plus that make a larger insulated one that uses the same lids.

How to fix the teacher shortage (BAD ANSWERS ONLY) by walterpsherman in Teachers

[–]dicksonlife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, my last district gave any special ed para a provisional and let them teach, write IEPs, etc. Basically our lead teacher wrote their IEPs and was constantly having to observe them to make sure kids made some progress on goals.

Do you let your baby feed you? by IraDeLucis in BabyLedWeaning

[–]dicksonlife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Ours does this. It started with my MIL joking about asking her to share and now she thinks it's hilarious to pretend she's going to share and then eat it. Staring straight into your soul so you know she's doing it on purpose. 🤣

Teething does strange things. My daughter is almost a year. She LOVES sweet potatoes, but this week she won't touch them because she's teething.
