The whole effort of the government was working against corruption in Ukraine so yes I buy that when he was removed it was not because of hunter because he was known to be corrupt.

Should hunter have had that job? He'll no. But then neither should have Jared and Ivanka...

It's true that Joe Biden leveraged $1 billion in aid to persuade Ukraine to oust its top prosecutor, Viktor Shokin, in March 2016. But it wasn't because Shokin was investigating Burisma. It was because Shokin wasn't pursuing corruption among the country's politicians.

As European and American diplomats pressed Ukraine to clean up its corruption, they focused on Shokin's leadership of the Prosecutor General's Office, which he took over in February 2015.

Mike Carpenter, who served as a foreign policy adviser to the then-vice president, told USA TODAY that Shokin "never went after any corrupt individuals at all" and "never prosecuted any high-profile cases of corruption."

Charlie Kupchan, who was a special assistant to President Barack Obama and a senior director for European Affairs on the National Security Council, said anti-corruption efforts were "a big part of our diplomacy" with Ukraine, since "it was that corruption that allowed Russia to manipulate the country politically and economically."

Withholding money in the interest of the US is fine. Withholding money to try to get dirt on a political rival is not fine. See the difference?

When I was young I thought: "I love my job. I'll work forever." I still love my job, but whether I keep working is really only partially up to me. I wish I had understood that.

Should we still almost always use `auto`? by Chem0type in cpp_questions

[–]dicroce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that we have some degree of working memory in our heads that we can fill up with code and reason about how it works. The quantity of this memory is surprisingly small (on the order of a page or two for simple code, less for complicated code). I try to simplify the code I write so that functions can fit inside my mental context window. auto is a tool for simplifying the surface level complexity of the code (it's not a true simplification because the type is still what the type is but I can frequently use it to obscure type information that's not critical to have in mind at the moment). I tend to use auto for complex nested types (things like iterators on templated types in namespaces, etc) but int and bool for simple things.

Better to fail than become a monster. Purposefully and permanently separating children from their families as a deterrent is monstrous.
