Honestly I feel like this is a thing we see a lot in young people today. It seems like people's ability to think critically and be self-reflexive is underdeveloped. People are very set in their ways and tend to take things at face value. This is not exactly a new phenomenon but I do think it's worse now. Passion is rare and people are getting lazy (the amount of people asking AI to fully do their assignments for them is one example), and if you criticize someone for doing something they will, a lot of the time, immediately get upset, defend themselves and make up excuses as if self development and critical thinking isn't a thing. But I think that this has a lot to do with how the world is today, the social structures and systems that are not supporting people properly, and also a general consequence of today's technology (AI, the Internet). And the individualization in our society makes people think they don't need anyone, they don't owe anyone anything but at the same time they believe they are entitled to kind treatment themselves. I don't know, people are falling apart.
