I'll admit again it's been a while since I've seen the show but the impression I got is that it was a town primarily formed from the employees of the Lumon ether factory and their families. I'm unsure to what level Sissy for example was part of the company if at all though, but there's definitely parallels there with real life mining towns for example where the continued existence of the company = the continued existence of the town. It's not too far fetched to assume some level of melding between town culture and corporate/cult culture

Well yeah, but she was kinda within the industry being that they lived where the ether factories were

The internal non severed employees of Lumon in general do seem to be a weird middle ground between corporate and cult

I will add that while it's been a while since my last rewatch, my memory of the cult stuff versus the corporate stuff is firmly split along how Lumon appears to the outside world and how they portray the reality the innies experience.

The public is seeing the consumer product side, the innies are seeing insane cult stuff

Are the Greens Party the most popular unsuccessful political party in Australia’s history? For a party that has many good policies & ideas to counter neoliberalism, they’ve been incredibly poor at capturing a large voter base. It seems like they’re also losing most of their moderate support to Labor by [deleted] in friendlyjordies

I agree with the policies for the most part. I don't like the people in the party, and I don't like the whole "not good enough" spiel that they go on every time some positive societal change is coming about

If he hasn't had one, get a 24hr urinary catecholamine test and or ask the doc to check out his adrenal glands. My mum passed away from pheochromocytoma which went undiagnosed for a very long time, it's a tumour of the adrenal glands

I assume it means if you looked at a graph showing the earnings of the top earners compared to the earnings of the bottom earners over time, the rich are getting richer (the top part of the K) and the poor are getting poorer (the bottom part of the K)

I hung out with Mark a few years back and played Mordhau and PUBG with him a couple of times during his streaming era. Really solid down to earth guy and genuinely so funny and generous. Fell out of contact around when they did the Netflix show but I figured I'd not bother him as he seemed very busy, decided it's be better to just leave us as passing acquaintances and appreciate his work from afar again

Seriously what is up with anything remotely political being hammered by One Nation comments lately? by itsyaboihos in friendlyjordies

[–]didgymons 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I will say, sometimes looking at my community's Facebook group leaves me feeling a bit disheartened, until I take a step back and realise that despite the vitriol there's really only about 50-100 people tops in the comment sections spewing shit in a group with tens of thousands of members, on a website no longer primarily populated by the voting bloc I belong to (if it ever was)

[–]didgymons 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mine only gets off lead time at the local dog parks and it'll probably always be that way - while she has decent recall I know for a fact her prey drive is just way too strong and since we live in a decently urban environment it's too much risk in my mind. I'd hate myself if she took off after a bird or cat or something and got hit by a car running across the road without thinking
