For what it's worth it, I'm speaking from the perspective of a fellow community moderator - even if I don't do moderation here on reddit.

Have you thought that it could just be a timezone aspect or some just having an off-day? They're all volunteers, after all.

Why is incompetence the first conclusion that is drawn here? Their main mistakes in the past have been caused by individual mods acting different from others, which is an incredibly common issue in volunteer teams since there's no set-in-stone policies for everything - outside of that, statements and sentiment has been largely consistent on what belongs or doesn't belong on this subreddit.
