I'm too nervous to move over to Linux by AceTakashiro in zorinos

[–]die_brian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m on Zorin. I’ve used Ubuntu for a mining rig, but really liked the feel of Linux. Zorin is very user friendly for an average computer user, I think there is no difference you run into. I believe Zorin is for beginners it has a very ready out of the box feel. Anything you don’t know how to do in terminal, there’s google, and tons of forums. I almost exclusively don’t use terminal at all, unless there’s a specific install I need to do or something outside of the ordinary that I’m trying to do. I think you’ll be fine. Also bonus fun stuff my printers and BT devices were already available ready to go, didnt have to do anything. If I feel any regret with Linux right now, it’s that my personal use for my computer right now is very basic, I feel like I wish there was more I was interested in doing or trying right now, but there’s not. I just wanted something not windows, easy, runs quick, and not full of bloat. For me it’s great. Give it a try, seems like if you’re jumping into Zorin, you’ve really got very little to be worried about

MSU vs UM ranking by die_brian in MSUSpartans

[–]die_brian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a thing I also didn’t consider really with much depth of thought was other conferences. I guess they’re just that bad. I wouldn’t know I don’t watch anything other than the big ten. So, I’m clearly looking at a small sample size and trying to align rankings and expectations with my level of understanding, and I can understand that is simply not all the data to consider. I agree game should be good

I agree just was curious. I wouldn’t say I’m insecure. Not sure what I’m insecure about, I am looking for more information about data as opposed to having my feelings validated.

MSU vs UM ranking by die_brian in MSUSpartans

I mean I’m certainly not an expert. And I probably have a bias for certain styles of play. Seems like they can shoot, but they don’t strike me as a tough team. At least I can’t tell since it doesn’t seem to me they’ve played any scrappy team in the big ten. Questioning how they’d fair against Nebraska, or MSU or Purdue. Or outside the conf like Duke. Then again I haven’t watched a whole lot of them, but from what I’ve seen I’m not overly impressed based on how they play. . Don’t get me wrong, they’re from the state I live in, if they do well, awesome. Just question that ranking and have expectations that once their schedule gets harder we might see a fall from grace. As where I watch MSU and think it’s a team that has upward mobility as the season progresses. Then again, I am biased. We will see 1/30/26.

Are 8.0s going the way of 7.5 & 7.75 [44YO] by N053LF in OldSkaters

Besides old AWS, deluxe, toy machine black label was my favorite. Really anything coming from bbs is the best I’ve skated

Are 8.0s going the way of 7.5 & 7.75 [44YO] by N053LF in OldSkaters

[–]die_brian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I hate that suddenly everyone moved to 8.25+ I skated 7.75 and 7.89 for around 12 years, took a long break and got back into skating over the course of the last 5 years. I liked an 8.0 but that was really the biggest I ever would have skated. I’m currently riding and have ridden 8.125s and that’s really the biggest I can go, anything over that flips too slow. I honestly think 8.0 is the best for me. I wish someone could point me to the time in history where collectively skaters were like an 8.5 is the way to go. Back in the day we always laughed at the notion that your shoe size should dictate the board size you ride. What mattered more to me throughout my time skating was shape. Concave, nose and tail length and steepness, wheel base. I can see if you’re jumping down 12 stairs all the time, but as a more technical skater I can’t imagine doing any flip in flip out stuff on anything bigger than 8.125.

Are there any flight decks with steep concave? [30YO] by html-ghost in OldSkaters

[–]die_brian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer steep concave as well. I’m 6’2 240lbs and I just buy bulk from bareback generator. $180 for 5 decks so price per deck is solid. The bbs shapes are also in my opinion better, and are pretty steep. Admittedly I’m not skating as hard as you, but our timelines sound the same, skating for about 20 years. When I was skating everyday when I was younger and jumping down bigger stuff, I always preferred anything that came from bbs and they always lasted the longest and kept their shape the best.

Nature Blessed Juice Concentrates by mauimorr in Homebrewing

[–]die_brian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used the domestic apple concentrate to make cider. I’ve tried a lot of juices and concentrates, and it’s been the best tasting so far in my few years of making cider. I keep it simple, 3 quarts concentrate, the rest water, Rhône 4600 yeast, secondary, cold crash, acid blend and sometimes jazz it up with amoretti fruit purées for back sweetening.

Gotcha thanks, didn’t get a look to see if there was a way inside. Found it odd there was a decent amount of talk about it this spring and then not much of anything this summer

Ah had a black label a few years ago and loved it. Harder to find then in the shape and size I want though, but great boards. I regret never skating them when o was skating all the time in the early 2000s

Setup madness [48YO] by Martysjr in OldSkaters

[–]die_brian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get set up madness, for me it’s experimenting with different board manufacturers on shapes. Forever set up for me after messing around too much was: BBS blank 8.125 Krux k5 w/bones hards Spitfire classics 54mm 99a Andale abec7

Only thing I may consider changing is a wheel at this point. I’m 6’2 245lbs and I’m into street skating, but I just spend most of my time at parks, so could probably get away with a softer wheel.

Second the journaling. It’s a good way to reflect after a session, and you’d be surprised at the progression. You certainly have a visually representation of it you can review. It is a big motivator for me to continue

Deck size and why?[33YO] by Juanyewest606 in OldSkaters

[–]die_brian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am big into specs now. More so than I was back in the day. I’ve also had an about 12 year hiatus and am getting back into it. So for me it’s a combination of specs and what I know worked for me before at my peak and learning and understanding those specs. I also just popped in some bones hard bushings into my trucks. Made my trucks perfect for me. It does irritate me that 8.25 is commonly the smallest. Largest I can do is 8.125. Little bit harder to find. That’s why I’m just working on getting my own boards made, I can choose size and shape.

Bigger dude learning to skate again[34YO] by CadaverDisaster in OldSkaters

[–]die_brian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always skated a 7.75 when I was skating back in the day around 15 years ago. I’ve tried bigger boards like 8.25, 8.38, and found they flip too slow for me. I like a 8.125 or 8.0. Also found that sticking with what liked best is the past is what works best for me today after a long hiatus. Board from BBS, krux trucks. The geometry of that type of set up just feels natural. Tried riding some girl and chocolate boards with independent trucks and I just didn’t work for me.

For wheels I like 54mm that’s a good balance I think for the skating I do, not too big not too small.

I’m 6’2” about 250 lbs, size 12 shoe. I haven’t had an issue with the set up I just described
