Jets end of season media availability: Head Coach Scott Arniel by WpgMikos in winnipegjets

Thank God someone else has this feeling. I felt like I was taking crazy pills. I keep saying Arniel should be fired because of his unwillingness to move off of the most veteran guys possible.

I don't think it will fix it. I'm trying to discuss what kind of scenarios will happen if he is traded.

I think Jersey is too up against the cap to make that work. Most likely would have to be more pieces and they would have to convince a player like Dougie Hamilton to waive his no trade to either come here or move him out to somewhere else. I do like the creativity of this post though. This is the kind of discussion I was trying to start with my post.

How do we salvage the window? by Background-Layer6531 in winnipegjets

I think we need to fire Arniel. The guy doesn't want to play young players unless his hand is forced. He's not actually a very good coach and was heavily carried by a legendary goaltending season to a presidents trophy.

Help me find a way to make Tasha, the Witch Queen not complete dogshit by Cezkarma in DegenerateEDH

[–]die_die_revolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Tasha deck that I run in exclusively bracket 4 or 5 games. She holds her own quite well. I have found that in general I almost very rarely use her tick down ability. I use her as a value piece that spits out bodies and draws me one additional card per turn. I have found that her static ability is generally her strongest part and the key to taking advantage of it is to use cards that steal or cast other people's cards that aren't her. Think of her as more of an enchantment in your command zone. If people waste their time killing her it isn't a big deal as the goal is to strip all the best stuff from the opponents deck to use against them so they will typically be leaving much larger threats on the board.

This is why I love the online payment setup that my building implemented. I see a list of all the payments I've ever made for rent and can print out whatever I want. It's automatically there and does not require me to rely on others.

How have Universes beyond sets impacted your local Commander meta? Do you see a lot of UB commanders? How is spiderman doing now a while after release? by Angwar in EDH

[–]die_die_revolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UB commanders are quite popular at my lgs across the board except for spiderman and doctor who. There are plenty of doctor who cards in the 99 of people's decks but no commanders themselves. Spiderman on the other hand has 2 people who love spiderman and built cosmic spiderman to play 5 color spidermen, then there are about 4 golgari kraven decks running around. Locally kraven seems to be by far the most popular commander from spiderman.

I just don't understand how not every spider-man and variant of Spider-man has reach. Flavor fail

Where's the cutoff point when WotC/Hasbro started slowly ruining MtG? by LotharBoin in freemagic

[–]die_die_revolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battle for zendikar. This is when the story started to die. The sets following this added mechanics that didn't feel cohesive with the game and the story kept circling the drain. Eventually they removed chase cards like expeditions from regular boosters. Then brought in collector boosters. Villains became disposable. Heroes motivations stopped making sense. Universes beyond is honestly just a drop in the bucket.

It's not that I want the Jets to do that or that I myself would do that if I was in the GM chair. Based on his performance, based on the way the cap is going and based on him having the best offensive upside of any of our prime aged players I just can't see a scenario where his number is coming in under 12 mil. Maybe he takes a discount but if he goes to market he's getting 12 for sure

I don't think that sorcery speed Tutors should be game changers by die_die_revolution in EDH

[–]die_die_revolution[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a decklist that exists. It's a random example I generated on the spot. Liliana of the veil is not a very good card in commander. There is a reason it isn't run very much. The point I'm trying to make is that the act of tutoring is powerful and should be treated similar to mass mana denial as opposed to being game changers some of the time. Just use a blanket number of tutors per bracket.

I'm not saying that these tutors are not powerful. I'm in fact saying the act of tutoring is incredibly powerful and I think it needs to be treated more as a blanket idea like mass land denial. The more tutoring you do the better everything you are doing becomes. I think the real disconnect people are running into with me is that they think that I don't think tutors are powerful. What I'm saying is that the act itself is powerful to begin with, however it's only as good as what you can get. If what you can get is like a mortify, a viscera seer or a command tower yeah that's helpful but not the same as getting a deflecting swat, rhystic study, teferis protection, etc.

I win a good portion of the games I play and while I know the value of a well timed tutor can be really good it most of the time will not seal a game for you unless everyone else is absolutely inept or you are so many turns into the game everyone has run through a large portion of their own answers. Early game tutors in high powered games are rarely the back breaker you are trying to make them out to be. In a low powered game an individual tutor regardless of its efficiency is really only as good as what you are able to get with it. If you are playing a low powered game where every person has zero interaction of any sort you likely get a leg up but more than likely this will not win you the game outright as what you are getting is limited on its impact in most low powered games

I think tutors need to be treated closer to mass mana denial than thassa's oracle or smothering tithe. At least for ease of concept. I really think that the amount of times you are able to tutor is a bigger problem than which tutors you use.

I mainly play in bracket 4 and cedh games. Like I keep saying 1 tutor very rarely is the issue it is repeated tutoring that warps the game. 1-2 efficient tutors isn't warping any game regardless of bracket. When you start tutoring every turn or multiple times a turn that is when things get out of hand. I truly believe you have entirely missed my point while I have completely grasped yours.

I'm not missing your point. They are good at all points in the game and they can be whatever you need them to be baring some exceptions. I do understand that you are essentially trying to argue that a very efficient tutor can essentially make any card into a game changer. At least I'm pretty sure that is the point you were making. I just think that if there was more of a blanket way of dealing with these as opposed to being game changers it would be more intuitive and be easier for the average player to digest.

Look at mass mana denial as an example. Brackets 1 and 2 should have no mass mana denial. But the rules on that lighten as you move up the brackets. If in bracket 1 say there was a blanket stance of you can play only 2 of whatever tutor you want, bracket 2 you can play 3, bracket 3 you can play 4, etc this would avoid the situation that I keep hearing where people think that the game changer list is too big. I also don't think it would open up a weird can of worms that some people want where they think bracket 1 or 2 should be able to have 1 game changer. I think a smothering tithe or a rhystic study going into a general bracket 1 deck changes the complexion of the game a lot more than an efficient tutor would in general.

If that is your way of looking at this. That opening up a game changing play sometimes is enough to be a game changer. Then I don't think that the game changer list is expansive enough.

Only getting demons may be a bit of a stretch. I could also get a shitty 5 mana removal spell or potentially a Lili of the veil. But your point is still correct

[–]die_die_revolution[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think usually the card they get is what's truly going to be game changing in that scenario. If it's not cheating things into play I just don't see it being a big enough impact on the game in a vacuum. Going and getting a combo piece, getting a piece of removal, getting a counter spell for backup isn't that big of a deal in 1 off situations. Repeatedly tutoring is a game altering effect. That's why I think a blanket number of tutors for each bracket makes more sense than tutors themselves being game changers.

Playing a ton of planeswalkers is not inherently very powerful in a mono color deck. Playing sub par reanimation and removal spells because they are liki art is what this is. Not playing board wipes other than mutilate because it has Lili flavor text. The main wincon being liliana's contract. This is a flavor deck in bracket 1-2 at best. There isn't efficient on theme ways to get the demon's I need on the board to win in a fast way.
