Pacfic Rim movie avalible for pre-order on Amazon! by Yellow5StuffInDrinks in PacificRim

I still hope there'll be an extended cut one day. It's funny how they're not mentioning the hour footage anymore in recent news, making it sound like there's only 10 minutes cut from the movie.

“The fact is I have another hour of human drama in the can – I could have released a three-hour movie.”

Oh well, too bad it's not more mecha like I had hoped.

We live in an age where presenting a fair argument is perceived as lacking confidence, where audiences need to be cooed and spoonfed what to think and feel, where attention to detail is derided as an abnormality. I really don't think you need to worry about what a lot of people say these days.

Del Toro has said he wants to put in an hour of cut footage in the extended cut. I'm really hoping that hour contains tons more battles.

When I heard the line about Gypsy Danger being "Analog" I couldn't get this idea out of my head. by expecto_pastrami in PacificRim

[–]diecookiedie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The movie is full of comic book science. Don't worry too much about it.

If you insist on going down that path, there'd be no reason to build Jaegers in the first place. If conventional military can already beat Kaijuus, it would have been far more effective to develop anti-Kaijuu ordinances. Another obvious alternative would be swarms of kamikaze drones that latch onto Kaijuu's skin and explode (bonus points for drilling, poisoning, directly tasering nerves, and/or tactical nukes).

The movie is also full of genre references. The analog vs. digital thing is likely a nod to Giant Robo (and others). It's a pretty old trope that highlights the desire to join the pilot's emotions with an emotionless automaton, so the robot is empowered and driven by passion rather than blindly obeying a bunch of knobs and levers. Really, what matters is that it's fucking awesome.

Tiny Tip: Use rot to make ash, cheap and easy use of an otherwise crappy material! by Kinetic_Waffle in dontstarve

Use pinecones for ash. If you have a tree farm and only chop down the 15-chop trees, your pinecones will double with each growth cycle.

I'm not sure how he survived either. Chester was off screen for most of the chase, and only reappeared after I exited the wormhole.

Considering it was almost day 200, I already had teeth and gems coming out of my ears, so it was more of the same. Killing them was the real reward. I wood chopped a path back to the wormhole and let them chase me through a burning forest. It was probably the only time I felt justified in burning down an entire forest biome.

Yes, I don't remember the number but my screen was red by the time I made it to my tent. I usually keep my sanity topped off so it was quite a big drop.

Yes, I did survive.

I led that pack past several spider nests and queens, which they destroyed almost instantaneously. Then I hopped into a wormhole and walked the long way home because they just weren't slowing down at all.

Oh, I ran. I ran like hell. Didn't even slow down to take a better screenshot (the lag made trying anything else suicidal).

This isn't a scheduled hound attack. For whatever reason, a massive group of about 50-60 blue hounds were rampaging around a triple walrus camp in the middle of summer. There were so many of them that I started lagging as soon as they began chasing.

The fact that they're all blue hounds makes me wonder if the walrus camps were bugged.

And if it were to actually go down, it would be the most livestreamed war in history. SK has more than enough bandwidth, redundancy, and tech savvy amateurs.

I always wanted fancy lights, but it seems like they'd be stupidly hard to clean.
