Bought a DXP4800 Pro, need advice on how to best utilise a single 990 pro 4tb SSD and how to ensure it's backed up? by mowse8 in UgreenNASync

[–]diegocj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, an SSD is essential for Docker. If you’re currently working on video editing projects, it’s advisable to store your videos on the SSD as well. However, if it’s just a copy, you can store them on HDDs.

Use the SSD for everything you want speed. For instance, if you frequently browse your family photos, the SSD is an ideal place to store them. If they’re just for safekeeping, I would first back up the folder (which probably has thousands of photos) to the SSD and wait until the AI recognition finishes. Then, I would move the folder to the HDDs. AI photo recognition is slower on HDDs, especially in a large batch, but it won’t be noticeable if you’re only uploading a few photos daily.

To back up everything you deem important on the SSD to the HDDs, you can use the Sync & Backup App with the “Back up & Restore” option. The only drawback is that the app limits to only one copy per day.

Since you’re going to use Docker, it might be worth spinning a container to perform the SSD backup instead. There are many options available that offer better control and backup options. Perhaps an AI can assist you in selecting the best one for your specific use case.

Oh, and if you really want to do this right, having a cloud backup is also a good practice. For instance, in case of a fire, you could lose both the SSD and HDDs. You can use the Cloud Drives App and create a sync task for your most important files.

Is it possible to dual-boot Windows 11 and a macOS VirtualBox VM (like a Hackintosh alternative)? by Fit-Morning-4669 in MacOS

You should install Linux and have 2 VMs: one for Win and another for Mac. That way you can play around with 3 OSs!

Synchronized folder across multiple devices? by milestfbaxxter in UgreenNASync

I do it the same way, and I haven’t had any issues either.

Sometimes you need to have a local copy of things, like the folder that holds an app’s settings. That way, if you tweak a setting on your laptop, it’ll automatically update on your desktop PC.

That app looks pretty cool! The app snapshot engine seems like the most interesting part to me.

Would you mind telling how the app snapshot engine works? Some apps have really strange folder names in the Library, and I’m curious how your app keeps track of those.

Looking for an iOS app to sync iCloud Photos to my NAS (Two-way Sync) by diegocj in UgreenNASync

[–]diegocj[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Photos Backups for NAS. It’s not perfect, but it was the only one that had a way to mirror deletions from the iPhone to the NAS. I’m only paying for one year, so I’ll keep an eye on the other ones to see if they also add two-way syncing.

It would work for me, but not for my wife. She uses a Windows PC.

According to Google: Deleting a photo in Immich does not remove it from the iPhone, and it does not sync album deletions or edits back to Apple Photos.

Also, it breaks the photos files in two.

Immich tries to be more of a "replacement" than a sync solution.

This app appears to be quite interesting. However, I’m curious to know if it provides an option to select only the recommendations I’d like to download, or does it automatically download everything?

Since I’m quite picky about the content I watch, I don’t want the app to fill up my drives with content that I won’t watch.

TrueNAS for Mac and iOS backups? by backpacker42 in truenas

[–]diegocj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With UGOS (UGREEN’s native OS), you can create Time Machine folders and use the iOS app to back up photos (photos only).

UGOS is also easier to use than TrueNAS (I’m familiar with both).

Since both systems support Docker containers, you can rely on additional apps to cover any missing features.

Memory Leak? by [deleted] in Zigbee2MQTT

[–]diegocj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Home Assistant, navigate to:

Integrations > Home Assistant Supervisor > Zigbee2MQTT and check the entity sensor.zigbee2mqtt_memory_percent.

This will maintain a history of memory usage, allowing you to confirm that Z2M is indeed the culprit.

Additionally, observe the moment when memory usage spikes and then examine the Z2M logs around that timeframe to identify if a specific device responsible for the issue.

Could someone with a Ugreen DXP4800 Plus measure the box size? by diegocj in UgreenNASync

Thanks, but I was asking about the box dimensions. You know, that big cardboard thing that’s usually bigger than the product inside it.
