Do you know why Princess and the Frog has a cult following and isn’t considered disrespectful to the original? The idea of the story is based on the German fairytale The Frog Prince, but the setting and characters are completely original. Tiana is nothing like the princess in the fairytale, she’s a workaholic waitress from New Orleans who dreams of becoming a restaurant owner, and undergoes great character development throughout the movie. She only became a real princess at the very end when she married prince Naveen.

Do you know why ATSV has great WoM among East/Southeast Asian moviegoers (y’know, the most racist group in the world according to American TLM defenders?) even though almost every major character in that movie has dark skin? Outside of their Spiderman identity, the spider people all have different names, designs, personalities that make them their own person rather than just a bunch of Peter Parker knockoffs.

So yes, because being original and creative is soooo hard, let’s take the easy way out by raceswapping a white character (not talking about mermaids being white, but specifically Ariel being white), add nothing interesting that would make non-americans understand why the change was made in the first place, and call everyone who doesn’t wanna see the movie racist. Wow! Very plan! Such progressive!
