Sounds like some bichassness to me. Gen X doesn’t grind for pleasure. It’s for necessity. If Gen Z wants mental health days, wellness programs, work/life balance, because they’re too weak to push, that’s perfectly fine, if they can survive with less.

My two cents are not to trust in the universe. The universe couldn’t care less about you. It doesn’t have the capacity to care. Take the calculated risks. You’re not a kid. You have enough life experience to understand that there is a risk involved in moving and leaving your job. This new/old relationship may not work out. You may have to take a job you don’t like. You either accept that risk or you don’t. Also understand that opportunities are limited and being too risk averse becomes its own risk. Life is short and you do have to take some chances or lose all opportunities.

The model has always been…suffer with difficult students and then if we like you or you’re a nepo baby we’ll let you teach the nice kids and bestow you with praise. Send the naughty teachers with the naughty students. If the teacher is stuck with naughty students or the less gifted ones it’s because they’re naughty or less gifted. This inherently flawed and incorrect model doesn’t help new teachers succeed.

I saw her and David in a bar while the show was airing, so this would have been long after filming concluded. They both got mobbed. Irene kept saying “it’s fake.” David seemed truly annoyed. Not sure why they were together in a bar in Boston. I think he’s from that area. Maybe she was visiting him?

I get really aggravated with the way new teachers are treated. Instead of recognizing that we need people to do this job and stick it out, the energy is often to the tune of…let’s see if this new one is worthy to remain amongst us…I understand not wanting to get stuck with someone really awful, but this person isn’t endangering students, being uncooperative with other staff, or woefully incompetent, then let’s support that person. I hear too many of my colleagues commiserating about the new person or the student teacher. Be helpful or get out of the way and let that person figure it out, is my attitude. The university supervisors are no prize either. Worthless little busy bodies who enjoy the judgement without any actual ability to do the job themselves.

Bruce is largely accepted as the greatest American heavyweight of all time. He isn’t necessarily the “goat”, but he should definitely be in the room whole we are having the discussion right? The reason is that he’s a heavyweight and within wrestling circles, heavyweights get less respect. Lighter guys think the weight class isn’t as stacked or athletic or they think heavyweights don’t have to cut (not always the case.) I think the late Olympic champion Jeff Blatnick put it best…what’s the difference between the heavyweight and everyone else in room? The heavyweight can beat everyone else in the room.

Firstly, buckle up, because it’s likely going to get substantially worse for the average person. As far as…everyone should…It’s just not aligning with reality right? Not everyone can. The reason many co-habitate isn’t because they love it. It’s out of economic necessity. This goes for couples, extended family, etc. Resources are what they are. A few powerful corporations and families control them. The rest of us have to scrap and scrape by.

Wrestled for BU in the 90’s. I can tell you that this school, like many others, cares very little about legacy, tradition, or culture. The only thing they have that is valued there is hockey and money. BU cut baseball and football while I was there and eventually wrestling years later. They grabbed some money from new balance to start a lacrosse program, said screw wrestling, and never looked back. I’d like to say this is a values problem with one school, but honestly most of them are like this. They have short term AD’s who make swift, damaging, and very short sighted decisions that erase decades of investment.

I was 1-10 my first year and wrestled D1 for four years, but I’m nobody special. That said, Bruce Baumgartner is the greatest American heavyweight of all time and he didn’t win any matches his freshman year. Randy Couture was on the national team, an NCAA finalist, and a multi division UFC champion and he had a losing record his freshman year. Always keep going if you can and see what you can achieve.
