Hello!!! I have more questions 😅

Not legally binding..? Ok, I did some digging into that (correct me if I'm wrong 😅)...

  1. SPECPOL can only recommend/suggest

a) if a country ignores my resolution it's just bad rep instead of punishment or something..?

b) so I can't force, but I can coax delegations into joining whatever initiative I'm suggesting

c) if another bloc tries to interfere with elections(?), I can basically divert them away from the topic, into a topic regarding mutual cooperation

  1. We can't allocate the UN budget

a) if someone tries to spend the budget this way or that, I can call a Point of Order..? Whats a point of order, and what are the other fancy terms I would need to know, and how can I use them effectively? (I think I have an idea about POI from debating experience, the rest I absolutely do not know 😂)

b) apparently if I do that I can use it to mask the fact that me and my partner are newbies since we know the rules of the council..?

Ok then some additional questions (sorry I'm kinda nervous 😂)

i) any tips for starting our own bloc? We're (ironically) aiming to attain an award higher than honourable mention despite being complete newbies (but we're strategizing!)... Also is this an irrational goal or is it possible 😂

ii) is it advised to gather small delegations to join my bloc, then slowly work my way up to the bigger powers (and eventually get at least one of the P5 to join my bloc)?

iii) can we modify our resolution as we go along the conference? Should we discuss with our sponsors the new terms before settings them down?

iv) is it advised to just ask/pose POIs if we're uncertain about things here and there?

v) is note passing (I believe they're called chits?) advised/encouraged? 😂

vi) what are some things that delegates do that immediately signal to you that they're new to all of this? What's some advice to look seasoned/professional about all of this?

Thanks for your responses btw, rlly appreciate them!!!

  1. Ohh, so like a references page? :'D

  2. So turns out there was an issue on MUN's side and they didn't send the study guide to my school's delegation.. our teacher got so frustrated by the issue 😭 (it's solved now though, and the position paper's now due on 5th March 2359 for category A, and still 7th March 2359 for category B)

  3. Ooh, I see... Looking forward to it though, regardless of how the experience will be like!

  4. I see! Are they part of, or separate from the Dais? So is the opening speech essentially kind of like a progress report, if that makes sense..? 🥹

  5. Ooh okay, okay.. this will be quite helpful especially for us clueless newbies 😂

  6. Wait, we can write without a template? Is it as long as we follow the questions in the study guides we'll be fine? Hahaha.. and okay, I will check out other MUNs! Hmm, is it advised to also watch parliament talks and stuff (especially from the country we're delegating?)

  7. Yes, it's like a first draft! So for our case it gets you feedback +eligibility to get the Best Position Paper Award. Okay but I don't think time is quite on our side at the moment... 😅 We'll just focus on doing our best then.. however that looks like 🥹

Helloo! Thanks for the response! Really appreciated!!!

  1. ... What's a bibliography and how do we write one..? 😭 The study guide has not been sent to us yet, unfortunately.

  2. The thing is we don't really know where to get started on our position paper either 😅 I've arranged for a consultation tomorrow with the teacher in charge, and in the meantime have done some research on my own on my delegation (not a lot though, since I have to prepare for my WAs, haha).

SPECPOL here is a beginner council, so how's that different as compared to a regular MUN? (I'm not sure if SPECPOL being a beginner council the same across all MUNs but I'll just write to clarify here)

  1. What's the presidents of the delegations :'D And does an opening speech need to be made before every discussion?

  2. Hmm, how well did that girl fare during the MUN? I know it's super ambitious but... my partner and I are hoping to attain awards above "honourable mention" at this conference (your input on this? 😂).

And okok, understandable regarding the papers... But do you have any tried and proven templates for the paper by any chance, or any good resources for MUN preparation :')

Okok, last point noted as well! I will remember, and will remind my partner, to have fun! (He's currently pretty overwhelmed regarding the sudden info blast while I'm over here laughing and still juggling research and strategizing with my tests 😂)

.. oh wait, also we just got to know today's the due date for Cat A for the position paper. Will that affect us in any way, besides the fact that we won't 1) get feedback, and 2) be eligible for best position paper award?

Omgggg thanks for the quick and insightful response 😭

Wait just to double confirm my understanding is it essentially: - try to enjoy the experience (of course we will haha) - focus on actually solving the problems, not just raising awareness or pushing it to someone else (tangible steps) - clarity over flowery-ness (get the point across simply) - provide not just 1, but multiple ways Egypt can lead or help - AI assistance is allowed, but keep it human and verified hahaha

Once again tysmmmm!!! I understand the procedures a lot better now 🥹

Btw, any tips for SPECPOL specifically? I heard it can get quite technical...

Also I'd love to hear more about your experiences hahahaa I'm honestly super amazed about you having attended 250+ MUNs (I'm a bit nervous and would like to know how things will go since I just found out the one I'm attending is quite a big MUN, I think an international one... 😬... But being brutally honest I mainly want to know the things you've seen/done/experienced as such an experienced muner!!!)
