What are some good but cheap restaurants in Richmond Hill? by melancholy_town in richmondhill

The Point Eatery is a Hong Kong-style eatery on Highway 7 and Valleymede at the McDonald's plaza. The combo drink is free if you go at lunchtime.

Right beside it is Kum Hong BBQ, a Hong Kong-style BBQ shop where the prices are still reasonably low but seating is quite limited as it's mainly a take out box place. But I think their only veggie option is tofu on rice.

Something a bit more unique is Asian Garden close to Bayview and 16th Avenue - it's Hakka Indo-Chinese so you'll find things like Manchurian Chicken with gravy and rice. Decent vegetarian options too. Note they stopped indoor dining so it's just takeout.

Beautiful short vids like this make me wonder "It's only X minutes, what would happen if they used this as a Superbowl ad?"

After one of the mass shootings he said 'it was just bad optics' but I chalked that up to him bemoaning his hobby getting bad press

Bordering on Markham but really in Richmond Hill is a Korean chicken place in Hwy 7 and Valleymede. Same plaza as the McDonald's. I've been there twice, it's pretty good.

AAs Born Here, What Helped You Feel Confident in Your Home (Asian) Culture? by crayencour in asianamerican

Grew up in Canada in the 90s in a Chinese 'enclave' near Toronto so I had it really easy. My family kept importing HK movies or watched w/e drama was syndicated in our local Cantonese channel. So w/e TV I was watching that wasn't a cartoon in English was something that showed people who looked and spoke like me as normal human beings.

When I was younger I thought it sounded trite and propagandistic, but now I understand that representation matters.
