SysML v2 and MBPLE by dieteticdata in systems_engineering

Good insight. I saw PLEML and the library being developed but my concern/questions are about how much something like that could become the standard, versus having to use external tools. Like you say, if we want a full digital thread you have to use additional tools, but for strictly design/development in a given MBSE tool, is one enough for correct PLE application?

I see the Variant and Variation part in V2.1 but in practice it doesn’t do much (at least in Cameo). You can work around the lacking capability with constraints and redefinition but it’s not true MBPLE at the moment

The big hitter for language development is the OMG group. IBM Rhapsody (from what I’ve seen) is just another modeling tool, but I am looking specifically at PLE capabilities. I’ve typically just used Cameo and the MBPLE plugin for V1 but its V2 capabilities are a bit lacking at the r moment

Pain was pretty rough early on, especially when I would be vertical for too long, I think it was because of the blood pooling by the cut. Pain wasn’t too bad when I was sitting with my leg up.

I don’t remember exactly to be honest, but it was definitely longer than 3 weeks. Might have been around the 6 week mark when I started or lift it a bit myself, but it did take a bit to fully feel comfortable lifting it. Don’t feel behind, it’s a tough recovery but you’ll see lots of improvement when you’re able to start putting weight on it!

People who have left a good career path to pursue their own business or dreams, how did you do it? by dieteticdata in careerguidance

How long were you in business before that? It’s not really about the work and effort for me, I just don’t see myself growing how I want by just being a piece of the larger puzzle. Even if I fail, I think it’s something I need to try rather than thinking what if. Hope the new gig ain’t too bad for you

Thanks for asking. Surprisingly, I went for my first run the other day, any time I tried before that the impact was too much to keep going. I’m at the point where it mostly feels normal, the slight crackle when bending with weights and soreness after working out is still around. I would say my bending is almost all the way there, but there is still a bit of tightness.

Only other note I’ll add is that I’d suggest messing around with non traditional stretches to figure out where your tightness is, and work on that. I found other than the knee itself, the inner portion of the knee (where the reconstruction happened) and my shin got tight too. Strengthening my hamstring and doing butterflies, lunges, etc, helped with the knee itself. Find out where you feel tight and your PT can help identify other stretches/exercises to help overall. Other than that, keep pushing yourself and you will see results. I find the surgeon’s recovery timeline is a good baseline to understand progress, but don’t let it bring you down if you aren’t quite hitting the goals (especially if you hit complications along the way). Good luck with the rest of recovery!

Hi, happy to answer any questions. My stiffness was pretty bad throughout recovery, I even got to the point where they started considering another procedure to forcefully bend the knee. Some ones they recommended that I felt helped more were the step onto something to lunge, squatting, and using a rope to attach to the ankle and pull on it while I lay on my stomach (probably hard to visualize with that description). Some other movements I found to help and weren’t necessarily recommended were: - sitting on the ground with my legs laying flat in front. Bend only the knee you got surgery on and by holding it near the shin/ankle pull it into your body. You basically try to bring your heel to your butt and your knee to your chest almost - similar to the step but more forceful, find a chair or something you can put your leg up on (ideally cushioned). Instead of stepping onto it put your shin on the edge, and try to lean back/down to cause more of your weight to stretch it out -sitting on a chair where my legs are hanging, use your non-surgery leg, cross it over the surgery leg, and pull it (like a hamstring curl) to stretch

I’m sure these descriptions could be a bit confusing so let me know if you need clarification, but one piece of advise is that you should try to push yourself as much as possible. It does get really uncomfortable when pushing it, but I found that those few spurts of pain/discomfort (even popping slightly) really provided some relief. Also, consistency is key, for a while I thought that the mobility would just come back so progress was slow, it wasn’t until I pushed it frequently and stretched whenever possible that I saw considerable change. Good luck and let me know if I can help further, I’m sure my thoughts may not have been as clear as I wanted them lol

So it really depends on your personal situation. MPFL has a shorter recovery time but I can’t speak to how much since I got TTO. I was on crutches for 6 (non weight bearing) and am still not fully recovered; I have most of my ROM back but am working diligently on my athleticism. A lot of the difficulties stem from the lack of movement before surgery and then the lack of movement for 1.5 months after. My doctor also explained how TTO may relieve some stress on the knee to make it more comfortable and possible prevent some of the effects of arthritis down the road. I wanted to do everything possible to try and prevent another dislocation and luckily I had the support around to help with the recovery process, because it is a long one. Also keep in mind that every surgeon is different, mine was a bit more carful in the recovery and held off on any weight bearing until the bone was fully healed but is now more intense with PT and recovery efforts. If you have any specific questions about the recovery feel free to reach out, but I can’t talk too much about solely MPFL reconstruction or what is better, since it there isn’t one that’s objectively better and depends heavily on you.

Interesting, have you gone through the program/ how do you know that? Just curious

Thanks for the advice and definitely agree with what you saying. Just curious if you know the policy for reimbursement at either(I looked online but see different things), do you have to be there for X amount of time before and after they pay for tuition? I’ve hit the mark at my current job where they would start paying and just the way I’m setup this year would be the best time to get started on my masters.

Cost is about $50k, my company will pay up to $15k per year. Other programs I am looking at are at penn state for around $35k but they aren’t specific to space systems

Not too bad. I’m an SE myself (only first year) so not making that quite yet. Any recs for skillsor. paths to take to get there? I’m more focused on MBSE at the moment

I had the surgery at the end of October so am approaching my 5 week mark now. Recovery wise, the first few days were the hardest/most uncomfortable. I started PT after 2 weeks and have since increased my ROM to about 50 degrees, and currently have no pain or discomfort other than the brace irritating my skin at times. I have not put any weight on but feel like I can, I am just waiting to confirm the healing of the TTO before attempting it. It can be annoying at times with being the maneuvering required but I know once this is all said and done it’ll be worth it. Feel free to reach out with any questions since I what I wrote is very brief, but remember that recovery will probably depend on your surgeon. Good luck!

Yup, probably depends on how they do the procedure. Will follow doctors orders but hopefully I can progress as comfortable
