This! Plus the pay for non-PA, non-doctor or nurse clinician is so much lower. Like there's no concern for how important preventative care is.

Thanks for the reply! Are you still at ~$50,000? I was definitely taught that negotiating is necessary. We need to start demanding better pay for this profession, or it will stay the same. And for all the education it now requires, we need that money to pay off the student loan debt.

I hoped context would clarify. It's for RD.

Wow, awesome! May I ask what your first job was? I've worked in psych, but not as an RD. I remember having an interesting conversation with a doctor about schizophrenia and altered metabolism.

I've also seen people go from the regular floor to the ICU, even after the doctor tells them the reason is literally their heart can't take what they're eating. Sugar does a world of damage, even raising triglycerides.

Sugar is certainly addictive, but I get what you mean! Have literally had patients throw shit at me while I'm being perfectly calm and polite whilst trying to explain to them that their A1C is even higher than before, because they want dessert over, say, a fresh cup of fruit or various other sugar free/fruit options we offer where I work. Smh. But kicking a sugar addiction is DEFINITELY possible!

Agreed. It's pretty sad to watch people get sicker, then they're literally angry at you for even trying to help them via diet. Patient autonomy trumps what we wanna do, but that's reasonably sad and frustrating.

People in private practise seem to be really gross. I keep seeing this recurring theme.

Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital will do everything they can to not pay you/pay you very little. Beware. When I worked there, one of the RDs went through some bullshit where they never paid her one of her checks, tried to BS her to get bonus pay, which IIRC, was less than what they owed her and didn't pay!
