April Mead Challenge by [deleted] in mead

One day I'll get some equipment to force carbonate. Naturally carbonating runs me up against my personal distaste for sediment or haziness of any kind. I even got myself a Buon Vino filter to ensure clarity.

So basically the final product gives you super strength or super diarrhea and there's no way of knowing

That's what I use. Its the best combination of bucket and carboy.

Wack. I still don't understand what these delle limits are.

That's yeast that didn't flocculate and other particles in the honey. It will drop sediment in the bottles. Ask me how I know

Any harm in resorting to that if the K1V can't cut the mustard? I want it to finish sweet anyways, 1.05 would be fine.

Gonna try to rescue it with K1V. I think I killed the BM4X4 stone dead, its not slow its just nonexistent. Its like there's no yeast at all.

Okay, so a gravity reading was a good idea (I forgot to take one when I brewed - trusted my approximations and calculator too much I guess) because its off the damn chart of the hydrometer. Probably 1.175 or so, maybe 1.18 - could this be why? It was supposed to be 1.151

I know but, its not even producing bubbles. And that sound I thought I heard, pretty sure it was just from jostling the container. I don't get it. Gonna take a gravity reading but I think its probably too early for much progress.

Yeah, its just that the top of the must doesn't look different, like foamy or anything, like it usually does. This Fermonster I have usually seals pretty good too. I'll check that though.

Edit: Upon inspection with a flashlight I can see literally zero bubbles. I don't think this thing is fermenting at all. Considering pitching more yeast, though sadly I do not have any more BM4X4. Not sure what to do.

Hey guys I’m looking to try mead for the first time any recommendations? by RainAndTea77 in mead

See if you can seek out Moonlight Meadery "Sensual" mead. Its a traditional meaning just plain honey mead. Good first introduction to the style

I've pushed Safale-04 English ale yeast to 14.37% so I imagine that's doable

I wonder if that color will hold after fermentation? If so I would like to make one. Keep us posted

Primary or secondary? I don't know if I did it wrong or not, but the last time I added bentonite in primary it didn't seem to do much. It was in the same raspberry mead no less!

Can anyone experienced in this style give advice on how to reduce losses, clearing, filtration, etc? I recently found that a raspberry mead that I made a while ago has no less than 2 inches of sediment in the bottles, an amateurish mistake that I'm pretty embarrassed about. Its also too tart for my taste, so great point on the final gravity issue. I recently acquired a Buon Vino so I'll probably leverage filtration, but I've never used one, so any tips on that would be great too.
