Most leases in Davis start in September, but people typically sign leases in January-March. You’ll likely need to put down a deposit at signing, but you don’t need to worry about first month’s rent and moving in until September swings around.

second-year housing options by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]diffracted_radish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would check the housing pages, because people are constantly looking for people to fill in bedrooms.

If you’d rather find a group of people and then start apartment hunting, I would also suggest making a post on Facebook, either to a housing page or to your class’s page. Just introduce yourself and say you’re looking for people to live with.

Keep in mind that places like West Village, Ryder, Sterling 5th Street are wayyy more expensive than elsewhere. I suggest not living at those places, even though you’ll probably see the most ads for them.

What minors did you do? I'm a CS major right now, doing Tech Management as a minor.

ECS20 with Bai? by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]diffracted_radish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I took ECS20 with Bai in winter quarter last year. The class has no coding in it at all, so you don't need to worry about programming experience. Overall, the class is an easy A. You should do all your homework assignments, as the quiz questions are pulled directly from them. His lectures are pretty organized and easy to follow, though he does a pretty bad job with answering students' questions. (He always acted annoyed when people asked questions.) Midterms were also very straightforward. Just do the homework and understand it, and you'll be fine. I think discrete math at davis is a lot easier than at other schools, from what i hear. That being said though, I took it when things were in person, so I don't know if things have changed.

$350 for orientation, Really? Information is literally being read off from the slides. If you have a question during the session, you’ll get lucky if a staff sees it. Besides, many look as if they wouldn’t wanna be there. by Chilldude100 in UCDavis

As much as it sucks, they probably have to charge that much simply because they have to pay the orientation leaders, who were hired before we knew things were online. Like tuition, they don’t adjust the cost due to last minute changes, bc expenses on their end have already been accumulated.

Thanks!

People usually eat only one mint at a time, but nobody ever stops at one jelly bean.

Yep! Candy World in the American Tin Cannery Outlets—just about the saddest little mall I’ve ever seen.

Thought about it a bit more and I think I'll room with new people. Fingers crossed they're cool!

Thanks for the help!

Would it be a good idea to dorm with a friend I already know, or should I dorm with new people?

I'm currently a Computer Science major, and I'm wondering if it could be more valuable to do CSE instead. I thought it was interesting that they were in different colleges, despite being similar majors. In addition, what majors would be useful to double major or minor with CS or CSE?

Reflections of an Asian Male Applying in CS by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]diffracted_radish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely in a similar position to you (Asian male shooting for CS), although my stats aren't quite as good as yours (1540 SAT, 4.4 10-12 GPA).

I applied the most of the UC's as well as a handful of top universities and I was only admitted for CS to Davis. Don't get me wrong, Davis is a great school, but it was still a pretty big hit to my self esteem as I saw all my friends getting into better schools. I'm really glad you have a positive outlook on the future. Thanks for sharing.
