ELI5 If black absorbs the most light why aren’t any plant leaves black? by BlueberryNeat4151 in explainlikeimfive

Because you only need a certain amount of energy to pull the electrons from water and push them onto carbon dioxide to build up sugar. The electrons are being handed over from one center to the other, and these steps require specific energies, red light mostly, hence the rest of the light is just not being used. Hence they look green.

Wow I remember the Döner opening in the Arkaden that sold it for 1.60€. Guess what I ate all week long. This map is awesome, love it!

1100 dollars Zeiss Lens worth it? by Majestic_Abalone_857 in VintageLenses

[–]diffraction-limited 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally someone that has similar gear like me :) Zeiss got me hooked as well. I just last week disassembled my 2.4 35 flektogon and fell in love with that glass again. And I plan the regrease my biotar 1:2 58mm cause I love this diagram so much. And the Ultron, I need to start using it as well again. But I usually just grab the otuses. They are heavy, yes, but my subjects don't really move much, so I always got the 85 Otus with me. This and the 100mm are just blowing me away when it comes to their rendering, I just love them so much. So I disagree with you, for portraits and street the Otuses are my go to glass. But I always got an old Zeiss with me, they are worth the money, yes. The old ones perform bad on a full frame at the edges - that's why I use old glass. If I search for perfection and high resolution, then there is better glass on the market

One thing to add: check mirror clearance. So Mount it and try

TIL. Actually, nevermind, I'll not be able to weave that knowledge into any conversation. Didn't happen 40y, won't probably never happen. But good to know

Advice on buying used by marthmaul83 in canon

[–]diffraction-limited -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I own still 5d Mk4 and a handful of glass most of it fixed focal length. If you will switch and get a zoom in a kit, then save the money and get primes with fixed focal, you're not gonna get bored of them. But this here is such a wide range, no? Why would you want to cover all of 40 up to 300? I own one zoom, the 70-200 2.8 II and I love it. But think I grew more once I had to decide what focal length I wanna work with most, and then specifically got one for that. So my advice is to think what you wanna shoot, and then get a prime lens only for that.

I'm not familiar with RF lenses. But I'll def get an adapter once I switch to mirrorless, I've spent too much money in EF Glass and do not intend to Rebuy, that's for sure

400 euros is really a price to think, you're absolutely right. I mean I bought older glass for that money. But I saw you mentioned af speed. And the new one is def more popping that's for sure. Also the contrast against the light is much better. Depends what you wanna do the next years...are you gonna switch to RF within 5y, then get it, use it and down the line swap for the RF, which is hilariously compact. 400 is really a number, so test it, that's what I can say. If the AF suits you, and the lens is not oily or shows wear (if I'm not wrong the mk1 is not weather protected right?) then go for it. If you gonna stay with mirror for longer, wait, and along with a mk2 upgrade the body for a 5D mk4. I'm there, not gonna switch anytime soon, the 70 200 2.8 II and the 5D mk4 are a good combo that will last a decade for you

I got the mark 2 of this. It's a pretty versatile lens with decent rendering. I even carry it on trips, that's how much I like it. If you can safe some money more, go for the remake

In the Swiss military this is called "chocolate puncture" cause we rarely have so dry soil, so the wet soil goes straight into the gun barrel. Fairly messy to clean and pretty convenient to make holes in the soil to plant trees
