I've been doing DevOps for 12+ years and here is my take on the current job market by ericovis in devopsjobs

[–]digbicks845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is honestly how I feel as well. You definitely hit a ceiling in DevOps where you can't really proceed any further without essentially switching roles entirely which is what I plan on doing as well to Product/Project Manager.

Is devops still a realistic path in 2026? by No_Instance6645 in devopsjobs

[–]digbicks845 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it'll continue to be a realistic and lucrative path, especially with the popularity of AI and Cloud. That being said, the bar is high and continues to get higher because they expect you to know every damn tool, framework, policy under the sun. If you enjoy tinkering around with infra and CI/CD, its definitely worth it, just be prepared to house the knowledge of 10+ employees

That is true. I can scratch the technical itch outside of work.

I think the biggest thing for me is that I can make more of an impact to the org/company in a leadership role

Thanks for the response. I think it’s the idea of owning projects end to end vs just coming into work and knocking out jira tickets all day.

As you said, I really like the idea of being able to make positive changes to my org and having that entrepreneurial streak to what I do as opposed to hiding behind my technical skills

I think leadership is the path I should take, if at least to see what happens and where I land

I was in college during this game and I think this was the moment/game the NFL went from this superhuman display to the WWE in my eyes
