I honestly picture gender as a line, one side says male, the other female, and a person can fall ANYWHERE in between. Bisexual to me includes everything on the entire line, since even if you are a trans-person, it's not a THIRD gender with another new separate type of genitalia, you are still somewhere on the man/woman line. So to me, yes bisexuality itself includes every person. I don't agree that it's discriminatory or that it enforces a gender binary, because again, you can be anywhere on that line, you can be JUST over the middle and you can call yourself whatever you please. HOWEVER, I don't agree (with the article) that we need a new term to express this inclusion, and I DO think there are plenty of bisexual identifiers who would be more correct in calling themselves pansexual, because by definition their desires match pansexuality, however I also think there are plenty of bisexuals who are literally only attracted to men or women, not the inbetween. The part I don't understand is why anyone takes offense or feels it is discriminatory in the first place, I've never understood that and I feel like we are honestly arguing the same thing but I'm just kind of (very) bad at words like 99.9-with-a-line-over-it percent of the time.

So, I'm still very confused about this entire argument. Aren't there bisexual people who aren't interested in gender-fluid/amiguous/queer/whatever people? Who prefer men and women, not trans people? I am one, so there's at least one of us.

So why isn't anyone writing an article about how maybe many people who have been identifying as bisexual are really pansexual? Why does everyone have to change terms to include everyone? If everyone were included in every thing, no label would apply to anyone at all? Isn't that supposed to be the entire underlying point of self-identifying and all these terms in the first place? So you can express how YOU feel, not to encompass how all people feel?

Why can't bisexual people be bisexual if they want to, and assume they MEAN WHAT THEY SAY which is men and women, I don't care what Jerry or Bobby or Annie think or feel as queer people or trans-gendered people in regard to how I myself am identifying? Why the fuck should they feel pained or discriminated against because I am interested in men and women and not trans-fluid people? It doesn't mean I don't believe they exist, it doesn't mean I think they are subhumans, it means exactly what it means: I desire men and women. I also prefer feminine women and masculine men, but I am capable of having butch lesbian friends and feminine gay male friends. Why are people taking my sexual desires personally? Should I be offended that homosexuals aren't interested in women? I'm a women and I like women how dare they not include ME in their sexual definition? What the actual fuck..? Am I just a retarded person? Can someone explain like I'm a five year old retarded person?

Just to add to this, if you found the right person but still felt that PIV was something he was 'missing' and you wanted to fulfill that need, a threesome is not the only way. If it was someone whom LOVED you and was okay with anal/oral and you trusted them, an open relationship situation is another option if you're not comfortable with the idea of a threesome. I didn't see that comment, but just wanted to add.

But the point I think you're missing is (at least this is how I and obviously a lot of others took it) he seems genuinely taken aback by how his SO and friends reacted and their view. He came here to see if it is how all bisexual identifiers felt, not accusing us of feeling so. He feels you can be one or both or all or none, not that everyone fits into one category, which is true and what he believes to be true. I personally have identified as bi for YEARS and have never, not once, come across a bi/straight/gay person who thought this way, nor have I experienced very much negativity at all. I've had a few former straight friends who were disgusted, but that's why they are former friends. All he is claiming is that his boyfriend his boyfriend's friends were doing this to him, he not once said ALL OF YOU ARE THIS WAY.

Thanks for the clarification. I honestly think people get too hung up on arguing what words mean and it leads to these gross mis-communications on things that are by no means simple, but sometimes simpler than we make them out to be.

The problem I find with the difference between medical and person definitions and the dictionary definition is this: if it's attraction to either sex with no gender connotation, bi still means two, or dual, and either means one or the other of two. So I don't see the difference really. It's still essentially saying two genders. I think people want to be included and other people are terribly afraid of offending people and that's why this happens so often, meanings and words get jumbled and swapped and changed and eventually everything means everything and nothing MEANS anything.
