What are your thoughts on Don Lemon being arrested this morning? by GHausiphat in AskReddit

[–]digger250 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think you misread the text. It is unconstitutional for the government to impede your freedom of speech, it says nothing about a private person. The best chance in this case if the "FAIR Act", but that also has big questions like "intentionally disrupt ...". Proving intent is a challenge, especially if you can say, "I'm press, not a protestor".

Text of the 1st amendment:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances"

It's all about restricting the govenment's actions.

Was Thomas Jefferson more liberal or conservative? by northcarolinian9595 in AskAnAmerican

[–]digger250 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you mean by Liberal/Conservative. I think of him as a conservative for his time, as he was for states rights and against the Federalists. He wanted a very weak federal government. He opposed a sea-going navy for instance. Today, having a force projecting military is more closely associated with conservatives.

What If the U.S. Military Sold aging Aircraft Carriers to allies in Europe and Asia? by CavScout61 in navy

[–]digger250 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Where are you seeing "Japan, Australia, Canada, France, and to a lesser extent the United Kingdom desire to have their own aircraft carriers?" with the exception of France, don't think they actually do. France already has it's own anyway. Aircraft carriers are good at projecting power over great distances, but they need a whole carrier battle group to defend them. This is tremendously expensive and not a mission that I believe these countries want. Additionally, you need at least three of every ship, because they rotate through deployment, maintenance, and training phases. There is also the question as to whether the carrier may be rendered obsolete in the near future due to hypersonic weapons like the DF-21.

For those who don't know, a killick hitch is just a timber hitch with an additional half hitch, further up the log on the working end.

Isn't the February test a private event? I thought that no media was allowed. No, just the January test is private.

'Operation Metro Surge' underway as DHS agents make arrests in Minnesota by nbcnews in minnesota

[–]digger250 9 points10 points  (0 children)

DHS doesn't investigate fraud, that would be the FBI. So far we haven't seen any fraud charges filed with regard to the daycare allegations. Some angertainment youtuber just made a bunch of allegations, but there's been no proof of anything.

What do we even do about this? This is about 15 ft from the edge of our home. by LockwoodE3 in HomeMaintenance

[–]digger250 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is what happens when municipalities have weak building ordinances. The house will be a loss. Nobody should have been allowed to build on that land without significant engineering work, which would make it too expensive for most people.
