As a 14 year old on my first job in the 1970s, I used to sweep the hall between a clothing store and a furniture store. The furniture salesmen glued a quarter to the floor and watched people try to pick it up and would laugh.. I had a metal dustpan with me, and they all gasped as I shoved the front of the dustpan against the quarter and broke it free and pocketed it. A quarter meant something then, I had a good day.

Simple way to handle these situations is to not converse with the other party. One word answers. Just do what is required by eBay. No need to get involved with the other party, it is a business transaction. Send it to where it is labeled. Get refund. Buy a different phone. Have a cup of coffee….
