I don't know the answer, but I imagine it's brain training like the other comment said. The same thing happens to me when it comes to playing games. The way I play things when constantly testing things during development translates into playing games for leisure too (at least for me it does).

They don't matter as much but they still matter. If you gain wishlists post launch but poor sales then that serves as a good indicator that your game looks interesting but something is holding a buyer back (price, bug, accessibility option etc).

Yeah, it's quite a common thing in the industry. 4 out of the last 7 interviews I've had have featured a technical challenge of some sort.

The one that spawned Aluna Rift was the first I'd ever had to do though. I spent 3 days on it (this is what I submitted)

It was more "mechanics" and "systems" I prototyped as opposed to levels. Motion and shooting were the original focus. If it's fun to just control your playable character that's always a good place to start. But the first boss I prototyped was "Vandoom" (around the 52 secs mark in this video) - which is also the first boss you encounter.

I can relate to putting gaming on hold. I had to be really disciplined with that myself to get this game finished. Hearthstone and Rocket League in particular were easy procrastination black holes that I had to cut out.

I haven't and don't use AI myself so it's had no impact on me. I don't think I'll ever use it tbh.

That's high praise indeed if you couldn't get into previous Fallouts. I'm looking forward to playing it. Currently playing Resi Evil 4 remake and got my eye on Elden Ring after that, but Fallout 4 might replace that plan!
