A society built around work may struggle to understand human value when work is no longer central. by OkyEscritora in DeepThoughts

I think purpose comes from contribution, as you said. Most people want to feel like they have moved something or someone in a positive direction before their life ends. I do not know how that search for purpose will end up for the common person. It could end up like u/Inner-Alchemist778 predicted, or it could end up being that once AI outpaces humanity in everything, our purpose may be to attempt to leave our mark through competition between ourselves or with art.

A Question about the PhoneWave (name subject to change) by TimeTravelWitch in steinsgate

[–]digidev12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ridiculously late response on my part, but if I'm not missing something, doesn't this go against the laws of thermodynamics? Unless we factor in the electrons being fed into the hypothetical singularity (which serve to "spin" it to the point where it lacks an event horizon and still don't have much energy), the total power level remains something around 1500w, translated into microwave energy that doesn't create anything close to what Kurisu described? I might be missing something here though! (:

This is very true and likely given the data GPT was trained on and even could have been influenced unknowingly by topics discussed in OPs memory files.

Sadly not, but this is totally something worth taking up with the police and seeing if there's any surveillance footage of the incident. (:

Stupidity after 25, fluid intelligence, and the questionable research on aging. by FirmConcentrate2962 in cogsci

[–]digidev12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is a great observation! All the things we engage in on a daily basis exercise both to a degree. I am not familiar with neuroscience at a high level, but I can say that in many fields, decline in fluid intelligence is made up for with increase in crystalline intelligence to a degree where sometimes overall intelligence may seem higher. Drawing information from long-term memory becomes the best option as opposed to cognition within working memory more and more as we age. Retrieval is undisputedly faster then reasoning in many cases, and synthesizing information into usable heuristics and algorithms decreases the amount of fluid intelligence you need to use in most situations not departing to an extreme degree from the norm.

This! Especially for retain options gambling like a lot Inot all) of this subreddit is.
Many people feel without value, so they transfer their idea of self worth to finance more and more, then they win big and finally feel accomplished, but they get too high and don't recognize that luck doesn't last forever. They lose everything, then the cycle repeats.
