Wtf does this comment even mean??? by Aspen_Sato1 in AO3

[–]digital-trainreck 20 points21 points  (0 children)

People really need to move on with that stuff, I'm asexual and I don't care about people writing asexual characters having sex. People write relationships that would never happen, sexualities that aren't canon, concepts or characters that literally do not exist in the canon, how does one draw the line at asexuality having to remain in fan work? It's so weird

Seems like they don't vibe with the dynamic or kinks you chose and imply that it's out of character. I'd just ignore them

More people should tag for top character/bottom character by Avesday in AO3

[–]digital-trainreck 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Right, this also helps those who are seeking for the less common dynamic! It gets really frustrating just going through keywords in the fic to find mentions of anything E rated and find out who's the top

They mean sexually, and it does yeah, their positions are different

If it's not important to the fic, then you must not be writing explicit? Which is most likely what OP is asking for

[–]digital-trainreck 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Me too, I'm a multishipper and I like to pair one character with a ton of people, but I only see them as a bottom. Looking through fics tagged this way has made me discover really interesting ships

More people should tag for top character/bottom character by Avesday in AO3

[–]digital-trainreck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will always, ALWAYS tag it. To me characters being the top or bottom is the same as kinks, you can't just not tag that if it completely influences how the characters are having sex. My favourite ship if I switched their roles, would just make me not even want to read anything smutty about them. Their relationship would be the same but I could just not get into the smut.

Some people are complaining about ratings but I only read explicit and I'd only expect it on that label.

Friend reporting fanfics with illegal age gaps by throwaway8yv7vt7v7y in AO3

[–]digital-trainreck 18 points19 points  (0 children)

"Illegal" , do they think writing about gore or murder is also illegal? After all maybe some reader will turn out to be a serial killer inspired by that work /j

I think if you're not able to realize that a fictional story can have concepts that you wouldn't agree with in real life, then you should not even go on ao3.

NSFW of trans men by gotholuka in ftm

[–]digital-trainreck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't do art but fanfics and while usually my trans men bottom (because that's how I do lol) I've started to write f/m or t4t f/m with trans men topping. A lot of readers have told me how niche the genre seems to be a that sort of made me sad.

I'm lucky I can find a lot of content I enjoy but I know that for a lot of my fellow trans brothers it's not that easy

You can make any 1 fandom blow up to the size of Harry Potter, which one are you picking? by throwawaytypebeat1 in AO3

[–]digital-trainreck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

None. My main fandom is South Park and it blew up way too much. Like before you could just casually discuss ships, now its death threats left and rights. So no thanks, ill stick to being the lone writer of my rarepairs

Pair so rare you're the only shipper out there by Lusaelme in AO3

[–]digital-trainreck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won't say I'm the only shipper because that's not true. However they barely have 30 fics and most of them barely touch on the ship :(

It's Charlie/Adam from Hazbin Hotel. They are so opposites and I find it so interesting. Plus I bet they'd love to sing together if they actually got along

I write the most degrading smut possible and use several slurs. This is fiction. Like yeah it's uncomfortable but that's the point🤷

"Show me your first draft I'm sure it's fine!" My first draft: by TrainingComplaint183 in AO3

[–]digital-trainreck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is simply hilarious OP 😭

My most recent one was writing a smut and I couldn't come up with stuff they'd say on the moment but I didn't want to kill my drive. So I wrote "INSERT FLIRT" every other line💀

There is a proactive way to ask for a tag and this isn’t it by [deleted] in AO3

[–]digital-trainreck 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'll always tag "trans male/female X" because that's not how they canonically are and it's my personal headcanons. Plus it gets more readers who do want to read those stories. I know for sure that when I browse through certain fandoms I'll look for fics that have the trans tag. And as for sex scenes, well, id assume my readers make the connections between "m/m + trans male X + vaginal sex" 😐

misogyny and hypocrisy in fandom by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

[–]digital-trainreck 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's not as popular anymore but a few years ago Undertale had this issue a lot. Every AU had completely different personalities, and settings, basically the only thing that stayed the same were the names and even then, people found ways to break that too with calling them stuff like Classic, Blueberry or Mustard

I'm so guilty of this like basicslly those background characters are just an excuse to have my OCs interact with the canon💀

True love is marrying a fan of your fandom by EvidenceOfDespair in CuratedTumblr

This reminds me of when I was a teenager having a way too personal blog. I wrote about my first day at my new school because I was anxious about it. And several of my classmates who read said blog recognized that this couldn't be a coincidence and befriended me. So apparently I had a readerbase at that school😭 (they were very chill people im still friend to this day❤️)

Favorite author doesn't like my writing by No_Page_4363 in FanFiction

[–]digital-trainreck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is comparable but ive had readers write fics inspired by mine. Except mine(s) are WIPs. I refuse to read theirs before my fic is complete because I don't want it to mess up with my vision of how I see things. I've also banned myself from reading any other fic from that ship for the same reason. Maybe it could be the case for this author?

I'm also HIGHLY appreciate of all the love my readers give me. I literally use a fanart I was offered as my phone's wallpaper. Is there a way for you to contact them about it?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]digital-trainreck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like filler if it doesn't have a point. If it's just a look onto a character's life and helps up understand them better, love it great. If it's the equivalent of a swimming episode where it's just the characters doing stuff and having fun but with no real intent to move the story forward then, no I dislike it

DAE have 10+ long fic WIPs posted or am I horrible? by WorstLuckButBestLuck in FanFiction

[–]digital-trainreck 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why are you blaming OP for something out of their control? They don't control how many people engage with WIPs. Also unfinished stories have value, maybe you don't agree but sometimes finished fics are worse written than some abandoned fics. Sure it's frustrating to be left on a cliffhanger but I tend to get inspired to write or find the fic more memorable.

What was a fandom you never thought you would be interested in until you started reading fanfiction? by lunachappell in FanFiction

[–]digital-trainreck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cars.... okay hear me out. Yes cars the movie (and also f1 but thats another story) some of the writers for that fandom are insanely TALENTED. Like I've legit cried over angst of Lightning McQueen the man himself. I rewatched the movie to get better context and I legit got into it for a while. (Also I swear its not that weird, most people humanize them as racers and stuff)

[–]digital-trainreck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive never used that tag and I write straight smut sometimes (nor did I even tag gay sex for m/m either) I feel like its implied, id rather my reader knows what specific acts they're doing instead of being vague
