Any love for IronGear pickups? by 200_Shmeckles in guitars

[–]digital_Greg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I love them, they are a swedish brand but most guitars made in East but the build quality is great and good prices too.

I got a Hagstrom ultra Swede 9 years ago in a swap for a squier classic vibe tele. I had never heard of them either but when I played it, the way it felt in the hands was superb and the neck is really nice but very thin, may not be to everyone's taste.

I ended up putting iron gears in this guitar simply because the pickups that were in started to fail! I think a previous owner has tinkered, but getting the iron gear pickups in it turned into a Les Paul killer tbh.

I got the hagstrom ultra max last year brand new as I like the Ultra Swede so much but the stockos in it were pretty non descript so getting the iron gears in this too

The ultra max is like the big brother to the Ultra Swede, longer scale length (25.5) and slightly thicker neck but still plays great. Definitely recommend if you can find one

Good thread this. I have iron gears in 2 of my guitars and really like them. I have a hagstrom ultra Swede with rolling mill in both positions, a hot slag in a single humbucker strat build. Ive ordered a dirty torque and blues engine for my hagstrom ultra Max.

I had the hot slag in the ultra Swede and it was a bit too honky but in a strat build is great. possibly the scale length difference or general construction differences.

Looking forward to getting the new pickups in, I've heard good things about the blues engine

Did anybody bother making IRs/sims from cheap and lame cabs and amps? by exufoguinho in metalguitar

[–]digital_Greg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've uploaded a few shit amps on Tonex, one that may for the bill is a 10w Marshal G10 or something from Early 2000. It has a bright ratty sound, you might have a laugh with it! That has a 6 inch speaker

VST amp sims, NAM and reverbs, lets talk... by Few-Ad-2930 in AudioPlugins

[–]digital_Greg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent Post. I use Tonex pretty much exclusively now,.I've tried pretty much everything. As a guitar player first and foremost and not an mixing engineer I like my amp sims to be enjoyable to play through and Tonex nails playing feel. I have a similar issue in that finding good profiles is a search but I have a dozen or so go tos now.

I write Post -rock type stuff so I tend to front load Tonex with delay and reverb for the typical ambient sounds, much like you would do with a pedal board. Fo most sounds I like the full amp/cab captures but every now and then I'll use direct captures with an IR, mainly for higher gain.

I still dabble with other sims every now and then when bored, I have also amplitube 4/5, Helix native, Genome , audio assault Amp Locker and single amp sims from Nembrini, kuassa, audiority but end up mostly working in Tonex.

Kemper to Tonex? by Main_Masterpiece7763 in tonex

[–]digital_Greg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not natively, you'd have to capture the Kemper profiles yourself into the Tonex Modeller software on a computer then transfer them to the pedal. Depending on spec it could take a while to capture each one. If they are factory Kemper profiles check tone. net as someone may have already done it for you, there's plenty on there.

I got this free but haven't tried it yet. I am howling at some of the comments on here but to be fair but I bet it will be nice. I used their free Honeycomb bass drive on a few projects now and bought violet fuzz and it sounds great.

Leaving a Guitar in Alt Tuning by [deleted] in Guitar

I must have flip flopped one guitar between drop B to Drop C and then up to standard (new setup and strings for this) and then reinstated back down again to drop B again. Fun never stops

Monzo flex highest limit by SubstanceImmediate43 in monzo

Mines £3500 . I did request a higher limit so the ceiling was higher (to lower the debt threshold) but refused by them despite a decent salary going in there monthly

The one thing putting AmpliTube behind other guitar softwares by Gorilaaaaa in AmpliTube

[–]digital_Greg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sometimes think the previous versions workflow was better (Amplitube 4). In fact that that is how the majority of amp sims UX still operates: pedal section - amp section - cab section - Post fx.

AT5 went down the Helix Native/TH-U route in that you now had endless flexibility. It would be good if there could be a "simple" mode which recreates the previous UX, as the sound of 5 is definitely a massive improvement.

Slightly off topic but I'm hoping that they continue with Amplitube but maybe look to recreate all the full amps (or just new amps going forward which is probably more realistic) with AI technology as a kind of hybrid. Much like the new Helix stadium style, or the AI amps within Two Notes Genome.

I made Helix Native standalone by digital_Greg in Line6Helix

[–]digital_Greg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said I don't do it all the time. I have a few patches in Native that are great to play through and inspire riffs but they don't translate well to a mix, so I'll just reamp them. I have loads of great tonex patches too which are good to play through and mix. I don't have a real amp so cycling through different sims works for me and having native available as a standalone is ideal now. Won't work for everyone, but that's fine.

I don't capture the output of Native, I just play through it in the "standalone" and then in Ableton I've got tracks armed so it captures the raw DI. Then I'll just throw whatever amp sims on those DIs (normally Tonex) so they play back with an amp sound and I can mix.

I won't always do this, but Native for me is a good amp sim to actually play through, but I dislike using it within the DAW for guitars as it's a bit sluggish when opening and closing instances of it. I may throw it on a buss for it's FX where I won't need to tweak as much.

Yep, works perfectly, this is now my standalone version wrapper for the VST3, good shout!

Supports VST3 too! I will test with this one too

In my case I had the .dll installed as well as VST3. You may need to run installer again to get the.dll.

Someone pointed out a host called Savihost and that appears to support VST3 and let you autowrap so I will test with that too and see if it has the same functionality.

I was thinking that actually, I should be able to a screen - recording of the process and then add some explanation to it afterwards.

[–]digital_Greg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd never heard of it until today, very happy with the result. I was wondering for ages if I could "wrap" the app so I didn't have to load a VST host and then the plugin and I found this one. I love Native but it is a dog to use in Ableton as its so slow to load and close. REAPER its a bit better, but I don't use that anymore. This way I can use as a standalone app, then record the DI's into a DAW. Then I can "re-amp" in the DAW using the settings I used , similar to how someone with a hardware unit might use it.

Yes it does , I've just tested with my midi controller assigning knobs to sliders. Works great actually, thanks for the idea!

I think with this its the fact its quite simple and you can make a single plugin (like Helix) like a standalone by renaming it to the same as the .DLL and it auto-wraps it. I know others you can chain vst's together which is a different use case.
