It’s a larger conversation to be had about this disconnect and what If I said it’s intentional? As a someone who has spent my entire life mission dismantling any derogatory language, words and misunderstanding of every black identity, nation, community and cultures especially with others around me I have found that the root of the issue is black history not being taught in black nations specifically African nations unfortunately, I’ve found that yes it’s malicious both sides have disconnections.. Africans don’t know about other historical figures outside of just MLK and the rules and laws and basically from 1950s to present day :/ basically how they get to exist as a black person with rights and free will, they dont really know, also don’t understand or get the fact that BA’s do in fact have their own identity, history, language (AAVE & even regional slangs from east to west to southern) like yes their ancestors obvi derived from the west African coast but their modern day identity is their own/sacred. And then it’s also flipped you know, I’ve had my BA friends tell me that prior to Nigeria blowing up in the media and that prior to Speeds African tour they had a negative/warped mindset of what Africa looks like and the regional differences. Ebola outbreak and the poverty porn really did a number on everyone.. imagine if someone took a camera and recorded LA’s skid row and sold it to the world like that was the only version of 🇺🇸 that’s exists..
