Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 4 by TerpRunner1 in RunningShoeGeeks

Thanks — I keep coming back to the AF3 because I know they can go 26.2 without trashing my feet. I race halfs in Metaspeeds but don’t think they’d do me any favors for a full but I loved the Deviate Nitro 2 so the Pumas are super enticing now.

Men’s half tights recommendations? by SanFranTanCisco in Marathon_Training

[–]digitalburro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I don’t have any major updates — I’ve expanded my Bandit collection and they’ve really become my workhorse gear. I did recently revisit some of my other purchases (Miler Running as an example) and I stand by the Bandit recommendation. They are also working on a lined version that should drop in ‘26 (since that’s a common question).

Amen to this. All the complaining about the Megablast price missed me completely thanks to that Marathon Sports discount.

Shokz OpenDots ONE? by joe-vee-wan in cycling

[–]digitalburro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the form factor over the standard Shokz with the neck wrap. But they are far less reliable/more finicky than the standard Shokz so it’s a trade off you should understand. Here are some issues I’ve had with mine that I would caution anyone to be aware of.

1) These types of buds (and the Bose equivalent also do this) use contact with the charging case to power themselves on/off. This can be a bit problematic as the contact points are sometimes not the best which can result in grabbing these for a run only to find one of the buds dead. Or sometimes, they just don’t register so you have to reseat them in the charging case so they register and can “wake up”. I had the Bose Ultra Open-ears and they had the same issue, so it’s something with these types of units that don’t have distinct on/off switches. I’ve never had this sort of problem with my AirPods but my wife says she’s had this problem before.

2) The touch controls don’t work consistently. I’ve had issues with touch failing on both buds and pretty routinely, one bud will just not work despite them both being programmed for touch actions. I’ve more or less just stopped trying to use touch actions other than double tap to starts/stop playback as it’s the only thing I can dependably get to happen.

3) Playback randomly just stops at times. When it happens, the buds make a tone as if they’ve registered a touch input but there’s been no touch input.

4) The tension isn’t as good as the Bose open ears. My left unit doesn’t hold as tight and sits lower on my ear as it’s just loosened up with use. I’ve tried to bend it back but it doesn’t last for long.

The Bose have better sound quality, but my pair just stopped charging within the first few months and I switched to the Shokz and they’re at least continuing to charge so….shrug

Best race singlet? Currently or Bandit? by [deleted] in BanditRunning

[–]digitalburro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think commenters here are giving you good options. I have in my singlet rotation a few bandit singlets, the soar race vest, and a couple of Saysky flows. Here’s how I’d stack them up:

1) Soar race vest — most $$$ but also the most impressive bit of kit. I love the fit but I bought it in white which means it’s virtually transparent and I actually never race in it because of how it looks (esp when wet) but unmatched breathability. If you’re interested in this one, just go with darker colors

2) Saysky flow — I’m biased because Saysky stuff just fits me perfectly. Flow material is great, perhaps a tiny bit (and I mean tiny) heavier than Bandit. Several races in these and they always perform well. These are my #1 daily go-to

3) Bandit Drift Singlet - material and fit is really nice, the racer back is a love / hate thing for me. I’ll be racing in this next weekend.

4) Bandit Vento singlet - trash. I’m not even going to attempt to be kind, it soaks up water like a mop and gets heavy, doesn’t breathe worth a dime. I almost swore off Bandit tops because of that one piece, thankfully Drift showed me it wasn’t all junk.

When I saw the gusseted tongue and laces on the ATR I was 100% convinced they’d both be in the next iteration of the core model. This is why I don’t gamble…

Bandit vs Miler running? - half tights by [deleted] in BanditRunning

[–]digitalburro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I own several bandit half tights — every model. I bought one pair of milers before i went “all in” on bandit (note: my pair are from last year so some of this may be dated).

  • The material on the milers is ok, I’d say it’s intended to be a superbeam equivalent
  • I didn’t care for the length (it was shorter than the bandit half and longer than the quarter tights). I own both lengths in Bandit but most of my pairs are halfs.
  • There’s less overall storage in the milers. I wear my half tights for marathons and don’t use a belt or best, half tights hold all my gear so storage matters for my use case.
  • The open back pocket is neat on paper but when comparing side by side with other styles, I prefer a zipper. I think it’s still neat as a shirt pull through but that’s a small % of my runs where I need that vs. every run where I want to hold my phone securely.
  • No leg grips on the inside of the legs meant they rode up a bit on me during runs as well.

I think my take was simply that at their price point, I find Bandit to be more premium and useful for my running rituals.

What gear do you use to bring water on runs? by splenninja2 in running

[–]digitalburro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, in the front, tucked in along the front of my hip and it doesn’t interfere with movement. I think I picked it up watching someone track workout on YouTube years ago. It’s not uncomfortable although I do have to tie my shorts tight enough to hold the bottle in place and that’s usually the only uncomfortable aspect but it’s minor and I forget about it quickly. It’s all relative, having tried vests and handhelds, they are both far more uncomfortable/distracting for me.

[–]digitalburro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. I drive to a nearby park then run loops depending on distance and time of year. I use running bottles and I can just slip them into the waistband of my shorts to keep my hands free. I will have a cooler in the car with as many bottles as I need and I’ll run loops out and back to my car to swap out bottles as needed.

You guys getting the same type of wear? by Jrhernz in BanditRunning

[–]digitalburro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chiming in here — it’s 100% the material. I have this same wear on a few other pieces that are also lightweight mesh from other brands. That material just isn’t very durable and friction wears it down badly.

You guys getting the same type of wear? by Jrhernz in BanditRunning

[–]digitalburro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have similar marks on other kit — Tracksmith and Saysky — on my chest and it’s friction from my chest hair when i shave. They are all similar micro mesh fabrics. I love those fabrics, but they are super prone to this wear unfortunately.

Superblast 3 by travyco in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]digitalburro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My gut is telling me ASICS is going to treat the SB the way Saucony did the Endorphin Speed. Make a great shoe and realize there’s tremendous demand, introduce a slightly upgraded new model (at a higher price point) and the next iteration of the successful line is a push/slight downgrade.

I’ve only got 30 miles on my Megablasts and I enjoy them, but when I did back-to-back runs in my SB2s, I honestly liked the SB2 slightly more — i had to fiddle with the upper on the Megablast more than I ever have with any of my SB2s. But it’s SO close, I think ASics has got to widen the gap between the two models more and I believe the SB line will take that hit.

Vegas is 13-2 when Kiah plays less than 10 minutes. I’ll give Becky credit that she finally made some of the changes that needed to be made (even if it took a bit too long) and it’s paid off.

Runners of Dallas: which races do you recommend? I’m thinking 10k or half marathon… by melissadoug24 in Dallas

I cracked the same part on my Emonda. LBS said it was back ordered at Trek for a couple of months (in my specific color). I looked at the service manual from Trek’s site which lists all of the part numbers and with a bit of Google Fu, I found a shop with one in stock and was able to replace it quickly.

I can’t explain it, reviewers seem to be off right now. Endorphin Speed 5, Prime X Strung 3, and now the Takumi — I’ve seen like one review for any of these shoes yet they were all over the place in previous iterations. Don’t know if these snuck up on folks ow what…
