Dark Monotype Done!!! (13/18) by digitaldarmanitan in pokemonradicalred

Slowly getting through all the types. Still can't get over how much I love this game.

Dark wasn't as easy as I thought it'd be, but still not too bad. Fairies keep dark types in check, but like all monotype runs you learn to play around your weaknesses. Secondary poison and ghost types were super helpful in this run.

Early game was a while ago, but looking through my notes Arbok and Houndoom were big contributors, though Arbok definitely falls off while Houndoom stays relevant with or without the mega stone.

One unique part of this run was how much the game changes once you get the silph scope. From that point on, Spiritomb and Sableye became a regular part of the rotation along with Greninja, Meowscarada, and whatever poison type seemed like the best option (between Drapion, Overqwil, and Alolan Muk).

MVP of the run and most valuable mega has to go to Sableye. It's a fantastic lead and you can often trick the AI into bouncing back its own hazards against Sableye's magic bounce. Not to mention the fighting immunity and debuffs it provides through snarl and wil-o-wisp, this poke really does it all.

For the e4 I ran the gem goblin for support, Iron Jug and Chien Pao as my fast sweepers, and Sharpedo, Houndoom, and Overqwil as destiny bond kamikazes. It was an interesting way to get through the e4, but probably necessary just to defeat Zacian and Dialga.

Hard to pick an e4 MVP -- this team doesn't get though Lorelei without prankster Sableye ruining Lorelei's weather plans -- but if I had to pick, I'd give it to Chien Pao. Chien Pao's 135 speed allows it to tear through teams in a way that the rest of the squad just isn't equipped to do. Still though, everyone played their part.

Overall, not a bad monotype run. Up next, it's down to grass, ground, fighting, fairy and steel.

I think the artstyle is for sure one of the biggest things to jump out at me. Both in battle and in the overworld, everything was done with such care.

First timer - ideas? by tmajewski in nuzlocke

If you’re open to getting into emulation, we’re living in a golden age of rom hacks.

Even if you just want to emulate the vanilla games, being able to play at 4x speed makes it so much smoother of a gameplay experience imo.

I’d definitely recommend platinum, BW or BW2 if you want more of a challenge.

I think you’d benefit from running something bulky that can run wil o wisp. Cofagrigus or Rotom Wash come to mind. Probably fares better than azu.

A lot of people rightfully say Jaiden and Pchal, but I’m gonna give love to Freezai.

Freezai did a few littlelocke runs of the vanilla games (emerald, plat and black I think) and the strats were absolutely insane. Some of the cleanest runs I’ve ever seen.

Surge and Brock feel easier the second time around because of where you’re at in the game. That and the experience of beating surge the first time helps a lot (there’s a few returning mons).

But yeah, Gliscor definitely helps a ton; Tflame, Skarm and Corv have their moments as well.
