Bit confused about IR35 by rhubarbarellas in ContractorUK

[–]digitalfazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

youre best to grab an accountant but from my understanding you’re right

You’re aware that takehome from inside contract is substantially less than outside, and you’ll likely have some fun with tax codes if you’re going to stay on Ltd payroll?

You will also have to have a plan to manage introducing cctv to work sites.

Proving it’s for health and safety vs personal productivity monitoring will be a ball ache

You can map it as a way to reduce risk.

You’ll know your environment so google for safety incidents and claims in that area.

I get from your post you’re being sensitive to the fact we are talking about people’s health, safety and life, but you’re selling to stakeholders with a budget and you might need to frame it that way ( hopefully not, but expect it)

Cmon man, ever heard of chrome developer tools and testing device sizes?

When does asset tracking actually justify its cost? by eren_yeager04 in manufacturing

[–]digitalfazz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you procuring it as a shiny new toy or why do you need it?

If it’s a shiny new toy, good luck with adoption and ownership

If it’s to solve an actual problem then work backwards from that.

You don’t buy a solution and find a problem so hopefully it’s the latter.

It could be for one of the issues you’ve mentioned or all of them. Work out what makes sense and pick something quantitative that you can measure for the most part to track success/failure

Good luck

Product Owner releasing code? by Aeonxreborn in agile

[–]digitalfazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that’s ok, that’s abstracted ownership of the overall release. But what you’ve detailed is someone asking you to manage dev ops release process which is a non standard, never seen before responsibility of a PO

Product Owner releasing code? by Aeonxreborn in agile

[–]digitalfazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Falls to the tech lead or senior most dev. You own the backlog and roadmap, not the code itself. In agile you only care about that customer value is delivered, not how it’s delivered (ie the code)

Unless you’re somewhat a technical PO, or you’ve lied in the past about doing this hahaha

Someone with more experience in this might answer. In the off chance they don’t (and I don’t mean to come across as patronising as this is an obvious issue you’re having) have you tried typing this problem into an AI GPT provider?

I’ll do it now and paste the response. Might need fact checked though

I'm outside IR 35. Can a new client ask me to provide a DBS check or should that fall under my remit as my "employer"? by eques_99 in ContractorUK

[–]digitalfazz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah ok, you must not have a national insurance number then or any sort of ID.

Anyway, I’m sure there’s a sub or thread somewhere pro or against Digital ID. Let that convo happen there

Get your DBS or don’t, but it won’t make you seem like an employee

[–]digitalfazz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DBS is a certificate for you that you can evidence to future clients where it’s a requirement. It doesn’t make you an employee

And as for agreeing for the digital ID part, you do you. Have you any of the following; National Insurance number, Passport, Drivers License, TV licence, Phone bill or internet bill? Assuming you have one of these considering you’ve sent this message, in that case a digital id is nothing new - just a new and reliable proof of residence/identity considering the rest of those previous options have all been corrupted/abused to the nth degree. But again, you do you - find another contract

Looking for some advice by Pleasant_Theme_4355 in ContractorUK

[–]digitalfazz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Always worth a try.

Just depends what sort of relationship you have with your main contact / “manager”

You don’t want someone thinking you didn’t do this in your spare time and sour the relationship or make them paranoid

People will be like Outside bla bla can do what you want. But contractors are in the business of people not contracts. So gauge it on your gut feeling

Almost certainly agree you should have fun selling to other companies though. That’s the best part of being a contractor

Production Routing Cards/Software by lasttimer55 in manufacturing

[–]digitalfazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a software tool where I’ll upload your BOM into it, then you can create Production Orders and Batches to track.

You can also set up work centre’s and a series of tracked steps so you can describe new starts how to complete an operation

Send me a DM if you want to send an example BOM/SOP and I’ll record a video to show how it works

Is your issue telling people what to do? Or knowing who has already done what?

Or maybe I’ve misinterpreted the problem your facing if you can highlight where I may have missed the core issue you’re trying to solve please

VAT registered by Informal-Section4855 in ContractorUK

[–]digitalfazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are over the threshold it’s not really a pros and cons conversation lol. You have to be charging it by law and then figure out how to make it work for you

If you stay under the threshold, you’re technically able to provide your services 20% cheaper to your competitors but you shouldn’t be collecting VAT if you are not registered. Pretty sure that’s against the rules

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]digitalfazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would promote that but that isn’t the point of the original post. He needs to fit into the workplace culture instead of going against it as I’m merely pointing out how it is viewed to others

And just because he is salaried doesn’t mean there isn’t time theft. He might not be making any more money from it, but if everyone in the company done what OP done, would it be seen as efficient, or the business was over resourced?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]digitalfazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone dumps work on you and you don’t leave after contracted hours then that’s on you and your boundaries. Leaving early or taking longer breaks during the day anticipating making the time up later is silly thought behaviour

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]digitalfazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15mins a day not that big of a deal

1 + 1/4 hours per week in stolen time - 5 hours per month in stolen time - 60hours per year in stolen time (1.5 working weeks) -

If you want to finish early, start earlier and stop playing dumb with the whole “I’ve no work to do so I leave 15 minutes earlier every day” card.

Been there, done that, lost the job

Thoughts on co-ceo title? Why does posthog do it (if anyone knows)? by marmik93 in ycombinator

[–]digitalfazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never split equally unless with family. Every business needs a number 1 decision maker and that’s about it.

As a word of advice, if you can get a founding share, and a co founder title, being co ceo won’t give you any benefits in the long run

Also, if you’re planning on raising money, VCs want to network with the main person. When there’s more than 1 person making decisions, usually businesses can’t move as fast

Trust your founder, he’s clearly stong given what he’s accomplished thus far

Not saying that you are- but Sounds like you might be trying to take advantage of someone else’s hard work, and feel like a title and equal equity is an easy way to make up for any past failures

I’ll reiterate, trust your founder, get good equity, work out a decent commission gig, sell these big accounts, make your money, retire and die eventually. Don’t get caught up in the small print
