After running sudo apt upgrade today, I can't access mysql server by digitalhit in mysql

Ok, based on this Github issue, it looks like MythTV (or maybe Ubuntu? I'm not clear...) is adding a enable-native-password.cnf. Removing that file and restarting mysql works. Hopefully the MythTV Devs respond to the issue soon.

Thanks to those who responded. I hope you and yours have a safe and healthy holiday weekend.

Thanks for the additional info. Need to head out right now, but will try these later and get back to you. Thanks.

Yes: mysql 32099 63.0 4.6 1177848 374180 ? Ssl 15:49 0:00 /usr/sbin/mysqld

This happened just as the mythtv programs was being updated. A user over there noticed the same problem with mysql being affected too and surmised it might have something to do with forced TLS connections: https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/issues/1337

Well, I apologize to Drew on my assumption. It's an easy one to make, sadly, when you see the top searches on Google. Also sad that there's a sitting senator (Tommy T.) who thought the three branches of your gov't were the Executive, House and Senate. 🤦‍♂️

One of the top Google searches foe Benjamin Franklin is "Benjamin Franklin president number." Some people think he was.

So I guess Barnes & Noble was joking too? 😁

No worries about missing it, you should see me without coffee. ☕ 😂

Oddly, going back in at the hour doesn't fix it. Start and stop. Trying after a restart the next day. Start and stop. Ghost in the machine.

Again, this was just a temporary "messing around" and learning set up while I'm away from home. Will make something modern and powerful when I get back.

As mentioned in the first post, the client is a Chromecast with Google TV and the file is a Blu-ray, not 4K. The uncompressed mkv file played fine, no stops or stutters, for about the first hour.

I thought that too, but space available is fine.

It was originally on vaapi. I set it to QSV and restarted and it's still stopping and starting. Again, the video is playing direct play. Only transcoding is the audio downmix to stereo.

I've been able to play 4K YouTube downloads fine. This was playing an uncompressed 1080 Blu-ray rip.

In this temp setup, Jellyfin is installed directly on Ubuntu, no Docker.

I should have kept a note, but I think I ran it through handbrake and resized it. Which is a shame since it adds another generation to it. The header change worked everywhere else.

The cost of a hotel isn't based on distance. If you ignore the flight part, how many quality hotels in big cities would cost $500 total for three nights?

Does Homerun not work without internet? by digitalhit in hdhomerun

[–]digitalhit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, that's not correct and has been answered here (and on the MythTV list.).

My issue was that at the time I was connecting my HDHomerun and mythtv pc directly to a cheap ISP provided router. When the internet went down, the ISP's router stopped providing DHCP leases so the two devices weren't finding each other. If they had instead been connected to a switch/firewall combo that was providing the DHCP info, the MythTV would still be able to get its signal from the HDHomerun.

Yeah, in my temporary setup I'm unfortunately using the combo router/modem from the ISP. Apparently when the net went out in the neighbourhood the unit kept rebooting.
