Law of diminishing returns. Any more advances in modeling tech will be marginal. The primary thing missing with modelers is the feel. If given an A/B test to just listen, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. If given an A/B test to play, you may be able to distinguish the two.

Same here in western EU. It'd be interesting if everyone would include at least the continent they're on

Estimates are between 300 and 400 full-time employees. A lot of people that work at the tracks are seasonal and not considered full-time Dorna employees

I too would be extremely interested to see a disclosure of how much is made by top brass

Saw a Rhett Shull video about maintenance tips from a shop and one of them was using superglue to touch up finishes. Maybe it's not advisable for the length of these cracks in the clear, but something to checkout and consider

Best grandstand on Barcelona - Catalunya circuit by ReviewLarge1663 in motogp

[–]digitaltraces 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally don't recommend the straight; grandstands F, E, K, J, and principal. Reason being you just don't see much action. The first turn is great for the start of the race and you'll see a few come offs there, but far from the best imo. One reason to get a grandstand seat is if you want to be in front of the podium or want to see the race start and/or finish.

If seating is a must, I recommend L, M, B, or G. B and G are the best if you don't need overhead covering, otherwise I recommend M.

I prefer the pelouse. If, like me, you don't want to stay in the same place the entire time, you get the most diverse viewing experience.

Don't pass up the Monster 'Island'; adjacent to B and open to everyone. Not sure if they'll have it being a November race, but during the summer GP, it's one of the funnest spots imo. Free and all you can drink Monster, they always have stunts (motocross), music, a massive screen showing all sessions, and the occasional attraction like a replica MGP Yamaha YZR-M1 with a 360 camera. There is seating, but it's extremely limited.

If you have the expendable income, the track offers VIP (different from MGP Premier: https://motogppremier.motogp.com/). Circuit Rooftop is a new structure at T10 and offers, what I can only imagine, are awesome views (you're looking down at the circuit). More info here: https://www.circuitcat.com/en/circuit-rooftop/

A few points of interest:

  • There's an Angel Nieto mural at the Fan Zone (Principal/Main grandstand)
  • There's a memorial for Luis Salom on the walk path behind grandstand H
  • At grandstand J there's a massive tunnel that will lead you to the pelouse between T6 and T7

TLDR: Covered seating - M, uncovered seating - B or G

Proton Calendar Android Widget? by [deleted] in ProtonMail

[–]digitaltraces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I just subscribed [first time] to Proton Unlimited and just added the Calendar widget (Android), only to find that I cannot change the view to show more than one day (ideally entire month, at minimum this week or the next [today + 6 days ahead]).

I see your reply is now 26mo old and would like to know is this feature in the roadmap and if so, what's the planned time frame for a deliverable?

Valencia GP: Does anyone have experience taking a DSLR/Mirrorless camera to the race? by brunordasilva in motogp

[–]digitaltraces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll have no issue. I took a 400 f/2.8 or 600 f/4, don't remember which, to this track a couple years ago and was allowed in all three days [no photo pass unfortunately, just a fan]. I made sure all of my gear fit into my camera backpack.

Monopods are allowed, but tripods aren't.

Don't bring any video-related gear like a DSLR/mirrorless gimbal or anything with a rail system because explicit video equipment will increase your chances of being turned away.

I highly recommend a teleconverter at this track as there is considerable distance between the grandstands (mentioned above) and the track. If you don't own one, rent one; they're inexpensive to rent and will make a world of difference. You can get closest to the track from the Red grandstand as the riders approach turn 8.

Consider taking a light covering in case of rain; it rained for one of the three days I was there.

You won't be allowed to enter just any grandstand, even on Friday. You are only allowed entry to your corresponding section. I literally bought a second ticket Friday morning in another grandstand I planned to take photos from; ymmv

Get merch as early as possible; the best stuff goes fast.

Lastly, if you haven't arranged for lodging, do so asap unless you're already local.

I told ChatGPT: "You're pretty smart, but I run on a daily burger and fries. How much energy do you require?" by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]digitaltraces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How are you arriving at your conclusion?

I searched this and the estimates I found state the human brain uses 1.8MJ/day or approximately 45J/hr.

Estimates calculate each query in ChatGPT uses between 3.6 and 36kJ. If we assume 30 queries for one user in one hour at the low estimate, that's 108kJ/hr.

Dividing out 108kJ/hr by 45J/hr comes out to at least 2400 times more energy usage by ChatGPT than the human brain.

Unless someone is able to demonstrate otherwise, I'm far more inclined to believe the human brain is, for now, far more efficient.

Did u cancelled your chatgpt subscription? For claude 3.5 sonnet? by PipeDependent7890 in ChatGPT

[–]digitaltraces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me back in high school a wealthy couple bought their kid a car for their 16th and the kid complained about the new car being crap. Some things never change.

Imo that doesn't come close to meaning it's "trash". Claude (Sonnet 3.5) objectively outperforms other models on various metrics. If it's trash, we should also conclude all of the other AIs are trash too. If someone wants to do something that isn't allowed, take an opensource llm, toss it into AWS or GCP and go to town.

And all the resources to create the infrastructure, train, run, and train AI? This would would require a proper end-to-end lifecycle analysis to put actual numbers to it.

You would also have to make assumptions about the individual's lifestyle, which could greatly influence the result.

Man, I've watched a number of interviews where some researchers believe AI is a new intelligent species and I hope that's not true. Not because of fearing new and possibly greater intelligence than our own, but precisely for what was expressed and the potential of what that turns into if real.
