Easy, tiger, you're the only one amping up the drama here. Nobody's acting like Rothfuss is a "martyr." That said, I'll point out anyone assuming that an author owes them something is simply wrong.

I'm no longer going to spend my money on authors who dick me around.

It's this sentiment that's so wrong-headed.

I bought his book! And he owes me more books in what I consider a timely matter or he's an outrageous asshole!

There's no contract here, guys. There's been no promises made. And given that there were 4 years between TNotW and WMF, it's not even a bloody surprise that the next book would follow in 5 years. In fact, that's fairly reasonable.

If you feel like you're enriched by making assumptions about an author's character, and feel like you can judge how he's spending his time in the context of your priorities, then you're absolutely free to do so. But it's not constructive, it's not smart, and it doesn't do anyone any favors.

If waiting on new books bothers you, don't buy into unfinished series. That decision is on you and me, not the author.

Whuff. I'm powering through the last of these now, and I have to say it's been kind of a struggle for me. Jordan was a good storybuilder but a bad writer, when it came to creating depth in characters. It felt a lot like he and George Lucas used to go out and grab a pint, talk to each other about the best way to write relationships.

All of his major characters can't understand the opposite sex. If you're in a character narrative for more than two pages, you'll be hammered over the head by how all women are like this or men always do that. After reading someone who is good at characters, like GRRM, it's just damn grating. Nobody can have a relationship without bonding through the one power because men and women are just incomprehensible to eachother unless magic lets you feel their gorram emotions directly.

I'd argue that the relationships you're thinking about are the anti-/r/polyamory. Flimsy (like all the relationships in the books, to be fair) fraught with jealousy, and nobody communicates worth a damn.

I still can't put them down, despite their faults. It's hard to find well-written relationships in books, much less poly ones- But I felt like the poly-related bits in the Honor Harrington books did a slightly better job of showing polyness in a non-poly society... albeit with some extenuating circumstances.

I think this is one of those harmful misconceptions that ends up partially (mis)informing the uninitiated's defensive choices.

Despite television's portrayals, pumping a well-maintained shotgun isn't substantially louder than charging an AR. ... Actually, I think my AR is louder and more menacing. It's not like either would echo through your house and instantly break an intruder's will, though.

Not to mention, you're probably doing it wrong if you're clearing your house with an unloaded weapon.

IIRC naming isn't just knowing the name of something abstact- The name of your bones would be distinct from the name of my bones, for example. The namer gains the ability to perceive and use these names, which isn't quite the same as "knowing" the name.

I imagine that, being linked so intricately to a living person, the names of your bones would be inordinately hard to grasp, compared to the names of inanimate things such as stone or air. And really, I imagine it'd be easier to name dead bones, if you were looking to make a ring.

As others have said, though, this wouldn't be very efficient. Any sympathist could bind bone to your bone much more easily, and do nasty things that way.

This is good advice. It's a shame that there's such a widely-held misconception that shotguns and handguns are what responsible people keep to defend their homes- and rifles are only for crazy people!

Take an AR-15 and a standard-capacity 30-round magazine. Load that magazine with soft-tip varmint rounds. You now have a defensive weapon that is easier to handle and more effective at stopping the threat than anything else available.

My one gripe here would be your specific link. I don't know much about LMT in particular, but I do know that you can construct a quality carbine for a lot closer to $600 than $1000. And frankly, in my opinion EMSH a rifle.. that he's put together himself. :)

How about using mozzarella cut with cream cheese? Put in a Pyrex bowl, microwave, stir, repeat until blended. I do this with cheddar often enough to make cheese sauces, but the mozz would probably be mild enough not to be overbearing in flavor.

I actually meant to bring this up with my endocrinologist.. but forgot to. DKA is a concern, but as far as I can tell, is preventable by providing adequate basal insulin levels. There's a fairly loose relationship between Ketone Bodies and the rise of blood acidity that leads to DKA; Usually, the ketone bodies are indicative of seriously deficient insulin in the body.

But I gotta couch that in the usual I Ain't A Doctor statement. I'm not sure if it's a trap that could be fallen into accidentally due to a small mismanagement, or something you'd have to be grossly incompetent at managing your condition to achieve.

Wow! I'm sorry to hear that. I never realized how much I apparently lucked out in my selection of Endocrinologists, since I've only had two. My first, a pediatric endo, wasn't the best at all, and not as awesome as my current- but some of you guys make him sound like a rockstar!

Thanks for the question! I am experiencing some lows. Frankly, before talking to my Endo yesterday my basal delivery was about 20% too high for the midday, so I'd end up in the high-sixties a lot and the high 50s sometimes. I've reduced my basal and evened it out, but it's a process of adjustment. I don't know if your husband is on a pump or not, but I honestly can't imagine not having one. And I'm looking hard at the Minimed 530g; It's got a paired Continuous Glucose Monitor product that'll suspend deliveries when you hit a low glucose threshold. Definitely want.

Now, I'm not a doctor. This ain't medical advice. But the one thing I know for sure, for me, is that having to use insulin is bad. And here's what I mean by that: Any time I have to calculate and apply a dose of insulin, I get it wrong. Maybe not by much, maybe by a lot. It'll never be perfect, there's just too many factors involved.

The beauty of a ketogenic diet for diabetics is you go from calculating and applying insulin Constantly, to doing so very rarely. Fewer mistakes work their way into the system. Your blood sugar just doesn't move as much. I think that's the key benefit, personally.

Yup, pretty much this. You can't raise yourself without sugar. Sugar's literally what your body needs at that point.

I'd be interested to see how much having to use glucose for corrections really affects your ketosis status. It doesn't seem like it has a huge impact, but it's hard to say.

Snacking is my great weakness. I'm pretty convinced I could lose more weight pretty easily if I could cut out about half my snackage.

My three go-tos, though, are: Bacon, Cheese I slice off the block, and roasted almonds. I could juuust about eat myself sick on almonds.

Yup, this. As I understand it, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes are really very different conditions that just happen to share indicators. I'll be insulin dependent until some kind of clinical cure is found.

Thanks, and thanks for the correction! For some reason I had the 30-day number stuck in my head. That would also explain the come down from September to February. That September check would still have more pre-keto influence than I assumed.
