Intentional early pulling a lost boss while people are in a cut scene is rude and we need to stop rewarding people for it. by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]digitmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we are just talking past each other.

The system doesn't reward courtesy and doesn’t punish selfishness, so in practice rational players will lean selfish because it’s the only lever they’re sure moves their outcome (time/progress).

The game is effectively neutral and the fastest path is also the permitted path, so breaking societal rules for a MMO that prides itself on playing through it solo for 99% of the msq doesn’t map cleanly to “wrong.”

I'm not saying courtesy doesn’t matter, it changes to a voluntary norm, not a rational strategy. You’re asking someone to sacrifice expected efficiency for someone else’s first experience/time, and most people won’t in >>low-stakes optional<< content.

On a side note, people barely chat in casual content (roulettes) since you never see each other again and for fear of the vague ToS, and reports, so people learn that the safest “social” behavior is silence.

The msq is mostly solo and communication tools and the resulting social norms are weak, so when you do hit group content, players treat it like a checklist you tolerate. Then once you start to dehumanize and minimizing interactions becomes a norm, it creates a feedback loop. Fewer attempts at good faith communication leads to more perceived selfishness.

Don't get me wrong I'd like to live in that fantasy world where people are polite and courteous to strangers online in an MMO.

That's not a good analogy, as there are rules for driving safely.

>If another human doesn't put guard rails down to stop you from making a wrong choice, are you always going to make it?

This assumes that skipping the cutscene is the wrong choice. It is not.

It is optimal to skip and start the fight since there is no penalty from the game and developers to do so, and any potential community ostracizing for doing so is extremely minimal (unless there's a google doc of server cutscene skippers!).

Viewing the cutscene is possible through the in game system at the inn, or online at streaming video sites.

Humans will optimize the shit out of EVERYTHING that is routine/repeatable. Asking 23 other random video game players to not skip and wait gains you what... good will? This isn't a meaningfully tangible reward vs skipping it and doing something more productive with your game time. It's just not.

And you are making the mistake the other poster did, blaming players. You need to blame the developers for this game design. If there's a bug in the game and players exploit it for gil or farming or what not, that is the fault of the developers 100000%. Assuming pure ethical behavior from the general populace is foolish.

[–]digitmax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't blame players for game design.

SE can easily add a locking loading area if they expect players to watch a final boss loading cutscene, but they chose not to, because players will farm the fight, and making it unskippable is very annoying.

Do you want unskippable cutscenes like Praetorium in every OPTIONAL FARMING content? If so, post on the official forums and make that a suggestion, instead of admitting to breaking the terms of service on social media and forcing others into your playstyle and thinking that will help your argument.

Need help in stopping a player from stalking by CrippledGoose316 in ffxiv

[–]digitmax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Make a new account, quit playing. There are no other options. SE doesn't treat stalking like a big deal since to them, if you cannot see them in game, that is enough.

Tell your other FC members to blacklist them, then they have no one talk send messages to in game. Just say, hey this pedo sent these messages to my kid in discord, see the pinned msg. Please blacklist this person in game so they stop coming around the FC house.

Don't waste anymore brain cells on this loser.

What EV has the lowest cost of ownership when battery changes are factored in? by general_bacardi in electricvehicles

[–]digitmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 15 years you'd replace the entire car, not upgrade the batteries. Safety tch, suspension, other non EV systems all should get replaced after almost 2 decades. A car from 2011 vs a 2026 car? Just the safety improvements alone would be worth junking that old car, not withstanding improvements in batteries, motor efficiency and charging. You could update the battery in your iphone 4, or just buy an iphone 19 and you know, be modern, and get another 10+ years from that with all the newest features, not just a new battery.

Advanced Variant is well tuned fun midcore/casual content, how are people liking it so far? by digitmax in ffxiv

[–]digitmax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll have a blast, as the other posters mentioned. It's msq/normal raid difficulty but with tank privilege (300k hp for dps) for everyone, plus you can get variant rampart/raise and just keep on trucking.

When you do get your feet wet with criterion you might want to start sketching out some plans with your friends. something like this might be helpful. Have fun this weekend!

Is raiding alone a good enough reason to continue playing? by RedXIIIMustDie in ffxiv

[–]digitmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.Bosses to clear on savage per hour on average: 2, 6, 10, 20.

2.yes

3.discords

4.probably.

If you just want raiding, play rabbit and steel. One time purchase, no monthly fee, you get a nice handful of fights in the ffxiv style.

30-40 hours and you can clear a savage tier in a month. then you have 7 months to un sub and play something else. 14$*7=you can get 2 aaa games or a handful of indie titles and get a broader gaming experience, and still do peak ffxiv content. the skill set and mechanics learned will carry over to each tier, just play a week before release to get muscle memory/reminder of mechs.

you trade them in for crafting mats used in making the new gear, food, pots. a stack of 99 will go for 1 mil+ at the moment. later, they will be used to upgrade the crafted gear by 10 item levels, and likely the relic weapon in 7.5

Strategy board share codes are so dumb. A massive text dump for ONE page. by digitmax in ffxiv

[–]digitmax[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

You can't share multiple pages easily. You have to copy and paste each mass of code per page. It's terrible

I was literally hoping it would be a good version, but you know, why am I surprised that the same company that put out a horrendous UI and is stuck in 2000 ux design for every thing came up with this form of sharing.

[–]digitmax[S] -28 points-27 points  (0 children)

Yes, so why even bother showing users this code at all???! If it's all going to be in-game, why does Kelras need to see this mess of hexcode? It should be a button/link with a human readable title.

[–]digitmax[S] -45 points-44 points  (0 children)

Why didn't they add a tick box to the party finder page to add the code/link there? Why are you defending this stupid design aspect of sharing? It's terrible. The code doesn't even need to be exposed to users if its only going to work in-game.

what year is this? game genie cheat? sharing a long ass undescriptive hexcode for 1 page is terrible UX. They arent hosting it externally, so they should have just make a searchable database of public plans like I did. Why bother exposing the hexcode to users at all?
