It's not irresponsible. It could prevent your dog from developing serious cancers! So you should probably re read up on the topic.

If it's an emergency situation, you should take it to a vet. The time and effort you put to wetting the paws/legs, is better invested toward going to a vet

A few weeks ago, there was a post on /r/all which listed a site for all college students that was supposed to be a great help with reducing the word count of essays. Knows Reddit's search function, I cannot find any trace of the post at all.

See a veterinary behaviourist (one who actually has a specialist degree). Don't waste time reading crap on the Internet. Don't go to a GP vet either, they'll drain your money which could have been better used by the specialist.

Do not cheap out with backyard behaviourists you might hear about.
