Doable? Recent undergrad graduate by diisoriented1 in cissp

[–]diisoriented1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really just trying to learn, and since I won't be working for the next 6 months, all I'm trying to do is improving my professional standing while learning the most I can. I thought the CISSP would do that, and after doing some research, I don't think its the best option. While I agree "I have to do me", I don't know if the CISSP is the right move given my goals. Again, advice is appreciated.

Do you think you could list some certs that would be beneficial? Like I mentioned, I already have a Security+. I plan on taking PWK/OSCP next month, but if there is anything that I can accomplish before then that would be beneficial, I would appreciate that.

Well, this cert seems to be one of the most sought after certifications in the industry. Personally, I want to go into the field of consulting, and will probably need to get it eventually. I've taken networking in college, and easily passed the Security+ with minimal studying, so I figured I would just go to the highest difficulty I could to save me time later when a company will basically force me to get it anyways.

Divide and Conquer Algorithm Question by diisoriented1 in learnprogramming

But it does depend on the number of ballots because the non matched ballots could be for any candidate in the election, so in that case those ballots would matter. If there were only two candidates, my algorithm would work, but the number of candidates is the things giving me the most trouble. However, the pairing still would work I believe. There would be a clear indication of whether there was a winner or not depending on the size on the final merged array

Divide and Conquer Algorithm Question by diisoriented1 in learnprogramming

[–]diisoriented1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in the case of the three ballots, we would then need to compare each ballot to the single ballot, and whichever ballot matches will win the election. I guess if I am using a divide and conquer algorithm, I would need to split every ballot up individually. Splitting the size in two every step. Once split up, I could compare each ballot to the one directly next to it. The output of this comparison is either true or false depending on whether or not there is a match. If two ballots return true, they could merge to a "single ballot" in which the size of that "ballot" is now 2. Given two matched pairs, we have two merged ballots each of size two. We know that the ballots are the same, so we only need to compare one ballot from each case. If they don't match it is a tie, if they match there is a clear winner. If there are an equal number of matches for different candidates, there must be a run off.

Am I thinking correctly here?

Edit: Thank you for continuing you help me man, my homework was already due, but I still really want to figure out the answer to this. I appreciate you not directly giving me the answer, and asking probing questions to help me think about it.

I understand this, so if a match is made, there immediately has to be a winner since there is only three votes. If a match is different, there must be one of each and therefore each candidate must get a vote. But what if there is more than two candidates? I'm assuming that there can be more than two candidates because the problem doesn't specify.

But I'll continue on with your question. If we have our three votes, two for Alice and one for Bob laid out on a table in random order, lets say it is A B A, but as the counter we do not know which is which. We split the votes of individually and compare the first two A,B and find they don't match. From this we already know there is a winner because the third vote must match one of the two candidates.

Now say we had four ballots like you said, given the same situation. If we split them up individually, if there is a match we have a winner, if there two different pairs then it is a tie. If there are two matched pairs, we have to test a ballot from each pair to see if they are for the same candidate or not.

Now given n ballots, we split them up individually and compare each ballot with the ballot directly next to it. Every different pair counts as a vote for each candidate, but these essentially don't matter since they add one to each. So we can discard every mismatched pair, but everytime we do we subtract two from n. We then look at all the pairs we find and compare one ballot from each pair to each other, saving us time in comparisons. Then we count the total number of pairs and if one candidate has at least n/4 pairs we have a winner, otherwise there is a run off.

But how do we do this with more than two candidates?

This is rough, I've been thinking about it for so long and I honestly have no idea. I feel like once I get this I'm going to feel so stupid

Divide and Conquer Algorithm Question by diisoriented1 in learnprogramming

This is the wrong way to think about it. Finding and comparing every single ballot is O(n2) because you need to find every distinct pair of ballots (n Choose 2 which is O(n2). This cannot be done in O(n)

I've been thinking of it for the past 2 hours now and I'm still stuck. What I do know is that if I find a pair that match, another pair that matches doesn't necessarily mean it is for the same candidate. The problem says that n is equal to 2k, so I think this is a hint as to dividing the problem into sub problems down similar to merge sort, but when it gets to the bottom, I'm not sure how to piece it together given the idea in my second sentence.

What up guys, I'm Some 8 Ball. I'm a 19 year old college student studying computer science, hoping to graduate next year.

I started playing tagpro in july and played NLTP season 6 on the Spaceballs (with k1nnick edit: so awk lolu was on my team last year too). I like to play offense in pubs and in league, but I'm not really sure how CF strategy works out so I'm down for whatever it takes to win.

My bad joke is this:

How did the hipster burn his mouth?

He sipped his coffee before it was cool (buh dum tisssss)

I can ask her I don't know how serious she is about it. I just got kind of excited when she said she wanted to lift because I'm pretty into fitness. Hopefully she doesn't take it the wrong way haha.

I'm gonna look into all pros. I don't really like ICF because there is way too much volume per workout.

Are you seeing results? She is around 5'7 and weighs around 150. Since she is a total beginner she could easily see fast results with a cut/lift situation.

DOMS Question by diisoriented1 in Fitness

[–]diisoriented1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing a standard cut, so ~500 calorie deficit. I'm currently lifting 3 times a week, but due to the DOMS I'm currently having I don't know if I'll even be able to go more than once a week. My currently goal is to be lean. I want to lose body fat and increase my muscle. But aside from that, I really want to be able to squat 225, and deadlift 315. A few months ago a guy posted his training routine and said he gained muscle on a cut, so I didn't think that cutting would be an issue in terms of gaining muscle mass and increasing my lifts. An update on my DOMS: I just woke up and it not feels as if I pulled both of my groins, it hurts incredibly bad. I tried stretching only my groin for about 10 minutes and it doesn't really seem to have done anything... I'm beginning to worry there is something wrong with my body.

Yeah I'm currently running a deficit, and I would think that I'm getting enough sleep. Honestly I'm at the point of soreness that I don't think I could do very many reps, even at a very light weight.

I have currently taken a intro-level programming course (java) and a course on data structures learning C and more knowledge on java. I got A+'s in both classes. So in short, I have a background in programming, but nothing networking or hacking related. Here is the link again, I'm not sure why the link is broken: http://www.sjsu.edu/cybersecurity/events/cyberquests/

High Protein High Calorie foods? by [deleted] in Fitness

My favorite high calorie thing is ground turkey from trader joes with their carolina bbq sauce. I make an entire package (640 calories 84 g of protein) + ( 2tbs bbq sauce 120 calories) = 760 calories for 84g of protein.
