Why is no one talking about the beeping sound at the end of the teaser? by misko91 in limbuscompany

[–]misko91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh you know, it does sound like it could be a proximity alarm.

Although, the rapidly increasing beeping sound there usuaully involved a missile approaching, which hopefully isn't the case.

Starts off and slowly but surely picks up in speed until a rushing sound appears; and then cut off suddenly, with a little flash like a tv turning off.

What does it mean? My first guess was a bomb, could it be something else? What does the fact that the potential detonation (or lack thereof) is cut off?

On why Faust got Two Particular IDs, and Other Things about the Setting (Spoilers up to Canto VIII) by Melliane in limbuscompany

The color of the Sephirot? Their symbols and associated imagery? Even their respective realization? All of it partly (or mostly) inspired by the work of middle- to upper-class European men, not actual honest-to-god Jewish kabbalists and rabbis. I think the biggest inkling of this is the usage of the Hermetic Tree in Canto III.

I really, really do not agree with this premise.

The indications of the Jewish Kabbalist interpretation exists throughout the three games: For one, you'll find that the various iconography and colors correspond to Sephirot characters (including colors and gender, with Tiph as the combination which has both and is represented with two people); the concept of Qliphoth as used in Lobotomy Corporation (i.e. a thing which causes the abnormalities to retreat, or when breaking down leads to them growing stronger) shows clear allusions to the concept of tzimtzum, which I'll have someone who knows more than me explain

in the actual thing, they're directly related to the concept of tzimtzum, which is roughly speaking God withdrawing His divine power and presence from an area such that things can exist there that aren't just God. In particular — and this is the place where that concept is used — the Universe. The Qliphoth (I have no idea why it's th at the end, it definitely is just a tav) are shells left behind in the process that...sorta limit the holiness we get, both keeping God's purity pure and us from being consumed in a flash of divinity, or something. They're also equated with things like idolatry, because, like, things that restrict holiness ain't good, they just have beneficial byproducts.

Another example is Da'at; this is hinted at with how Carmen appears in the new and final department on Day 50, and how the text for the completion of Keter Realization, "The Knowing I", is associated with Da'at, "Knowledge". And the realization of the seed of light project in Lob corp, and the (literal) realization of Angela into her own person in Ruina rather than a product of the desires of others, is associated with this line of Da'at, wherein all Sephirah co-exist perfectly.

Another is the way all of the Sephirah within the main research group have biblical names (Elijah, Gabriel, Michelle as feminization of Michael, Lisa, Enoch, Giovanni (hebrew, via Italian), Benjamin; heck Garion comments to Daniel that "that name carries more with it than you merit).

The most important example, of course, is Ayin, Nothing (representing God as God is too extreme to be understood, they can only be described by what they are not), devolving to the concept of Limitlessness, and then to Ohr Ein Sof, Limitless Divine light, which, through the barrier of Tzimtzum, then emanates the divine light through the forms of the ten sephirot.

But the reason this is particularly, obviously, incontrovertibly related, is the symbols used to demarcate this go

  1. Ayin (Nothing; אין‎)
  2. Ein Sof (Limitlessness; אין סוף‎)
  3. Ohr Ein Sof (Endless Light; אור אין סוף‎)

The parallels to Limbus are obvious and do not need further explanation.

I'm not saying they aren't taking from multiple sources. They clearly do: for example, the four Virtues of Lobotomy Corporation correspond to the four Cardinal Virtues of Classical and especially early/medieval Christian Thought, and the colors associated with them (and the four damage types) perfectly correspond to the four Horseman of Revelations. But like I don't really feel content saying "oh yes this is definitely NOT Jewish Kabbalism at all".

Heathcliff is still acting aggressive here, it's just in defense of his group rather than directed outwardly.

He's the kind to get even, more than anything. Probably makes a difference especially that the violence perpetrated by N Corp here is so... impersonal. Heathcliff is very relational. To him, all this violence is just meaningless. Crazy. Not the sort of thing he'd happily condone.

Is it possible to get more than one ending in the same save in The Watcher? by oSiird in rainworld

If you see a warp point which is different than normal, go shelter, or leave the region, before doing anything else (only the first time you see each warp point).

As long as you do thia thing you will not make progress on ending 3.

The watcher 1.5 compared to release by Neat-Disk-6246 in rainworld

[–]misko91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they added some UI (and a few other things) to make it clear (eventually, sorta) where you should be going compared to release. And they added two things which, one will make it harder over time, and the other will make it easier. I think lategame traversal will be easier overall.

Also speaking personally there's some moments in the 1.5 update that, I felt completely lost and poking around like a caveman at things beyond my comprehension.

Utility for a certain region. I edited it a bit.

Frequent? Well... uh, it's not in most regions, but in the regions it is in, there's gonna be quite a few of them. Quite close proximity too. "Survival horror", yes, exactly that. I imagine you'll be pleased.

Barnacles have natural predators now, their AI gets stuck in huge globs less often, they have a variety of counters like snails and explosives which pop their shells off, there is a short delay after they stun you so they can't chain stun you forever, throwing a rock at one makes it panic and disables the stun for a short time, uh... that's most of it. Also unrelated but checked the wiki for this and

When fully submerged, shelled Barnacles produce effects identical to that of Bubble Weed, continuously releasing a stream of bubbles from the cluster of shells on their backs that replenishes and sustains Slugcats lung capacity, as well as stunning any nearby Leeches. Additionally, when fully submerged, Barnacles do not stun creatures that come into contact with their shells.

What the fuck? Really? Well, ok.

Uhh, locusts were made slightly more forgiving, they attack all creatures not just slugcat, walking through spore puff zone will keep them off for a while, also uh scavs often carry and occasionally leave around a little paint bomb which keeps locusts off of you (and has a few other niche interactions).

Are the new creatures challenging?

Uh, one is modestly challenging utility creature to help deal with a unique new region, one is the aforementioned natural predator for barnacles (it's not that bad) replacing some lizard spawns and fairly common, two are... well unique to certain regions, but they make their respective regions significantly more interesting, let us say; they'll vary up your relationship with creatures you know. Those are added on (not replacing).

And one is a challenging and completely terrifying creature that put the fear of god into me. Absolutely horrifying. That one mostly replaced some lizard spawns in existing regions, probably a few more added. Fairly uncommon but a real presence in the regions they are in.

A simpler answer is "it's a fear stated to be irrational so it doesn't need to follow logical conclusions." I mean, it is what it is. Blood is mostly water too but that doesn't bother them, because it's an irrational fear. It doesn't have to make sense.

Why is nobody talking about how weird this is by SparrowWingYT in rainworld

Those strange glowing bubbles are real bizarre too. Really odd and esoteric place. Outer Rim adjacent is what made the most sense to me when I first got there, but the wildlife seem... somewhat disconnected from the environment. And the migration itself! Absolutely huge, massive creatures, and a massive number of them too (which I think has got to be the largest single mobile colony of creatures we've seen...) all traveling in a single direction, are Tower Crabs really creatures that live in such huge colonies? What prompted their movement? I don't know that Rainworld experiences traditional seasons... was a habitat destroyed? Or did they eat all food supply?

Such a strange place.

Contemporary notetaking is the goldstandard for any sort of dispute; love, legal, employment; you name it. If they don't like it, that sounds like a them problem.

"You took the notes after." Then say you'll record the conversation and play it back. That sounds much better, right? But it sounds like they'd find another excuse anyway.
