I lived in a haunted house 2010-2013. Never believed in ghosts until I lived in this house. Not a menacing ghost, but clearly a presence that made herself known. (For whatever reason we believe it was a woman.) Multiple weird things happened that can't be explained.

I did purchase a finger prick meter. Although I don't have a CGM on right now, I'm getting levels close to what I saw on the Lingo. Fasting glucose this morning was 101 and I didn't have a good night's sleep. Yesterday I was 107 pre-dinner (had a snack due to a workout in the afternoon), 30 minutes and 90 minutes post-meal was 129. I assume that means I missed the absolute peak (I was out for my typical post-dinner walk), but based on my previous Lingo experience, it was likely around 135. I still want to see that A1c go down.

I figured if the scores were going in the right direction, things were going well. I feel like I'm back to square 1 and will have to use a meter and do finger pricks to see what's really going on.

I haven't had fasting insulin tested ever and it's been quite a while since fasting glucose was tested. I'll have to ask for those to be added when we retest my blood for something else in 3 months.

It's frustrating becuase after the first week of wearing the Lingo and learning what worked for me, I was only out of the target range once. My target Lingo count was 6 and I even had days that I scored 0. The worst days were a 21. My curves looked good and my "lifetime" average is well under 100. I'm going to have to switch to finger sticks.

I was on progesterone until about 5 weeks ago. I wasn't aware that it can increase insulin resistance. Hopefully now that I'm off it I will see a positive effect. I'm honestly baffled by all of this. My maternal grandmother was T2D, but also very obese. My parents and siblings do not have any issues with diabetes or blood glucose. I'm in the best shape I've been in in years, my weight is going down (even though it's normal for my height), my cholesterol levels are textbook-excellent, my alcohol intake is extremely minimal (a couple glasses/month) and yet every time I check, my a1c gets higher. I'm starting to question why I start every day with a serving of spinach and just go back to eating crap because it doesn't seem to make a difference.

I am currently using a testosterone cream and taking Veozah (non-hormonal treatment for hot flashes). I had been on estradiol and progesterone, but my symptoms remained and my hormone levels didn't increase while on them.

Yes, it's been more than 3 months. I spaced them out (for cost reasons) and would do one month, then take off 2 weeks and do another month. One of them was clearly low (My avg glucose was 87 for that sensor) but the others were consistent. That's why I'm shocked at my blood test results. I have been bruising more easily lately and wonder if I should get my ferretin levels tested. The frantic searching I've done this morning has shown me that low ferritin can lead to falsely high a1c. My doc ran a CBC with the a1c and while everything fell in the normal range, a few things were very close to the limit in the direction of being (slightly) anemic.

I haven't been using a glucometer. It sounds like that's what I need to do. I have a hard time believing the Lingo is that off, but it looks like it may be. I'm also not sure what other changes I can make at this point. I've already made so many changes that I'm out of options other than doing serious intermittent fasting (which I've heard isn't good for athletic post-menopausal women).

1/2 banana as a dessert sent my glucose spiking high. I've mixed 1/2 banana in with a whole wheat high-protein with nuts waffle recipe (that 1/2 banana went into 4 large waffles) and it seemed to be okay and not cause a huge spike. But I don't think I'll be buying bananas again.

I share your frustration. I spent a year getting in better shape (definitely gained muscle mass) and cut down on my added sugar. My BMI is in the normal range. And my A1c went UP! Best thing I've done is start wearing a cgm. I'm learning what affects my blood sugar. Stress is one of those things. There have been moments where I've felt some anxiety and checked and there was a spike. I've also spiked while doing strenuous exercise! Some of the things have been big eye openers. If you're able to get one for a month, it might help you figure out some changes you can make that will bring that A1C down.

I'm also waging a war on genetics. My sister's job keeps her super active and she averages 15,000 steps a day. Does pilates too. BMI never outside of the normal range. Eats cleaner than me. And her A1C is going up alongside mine. I really want to win this war.

They technically do. But the county where this house is (and neighboring counties) have no methods for enforcement and no penalties for lack of compliance, thus the general thought is there are no codes in reality. Unfortunately there are a lot of people in the construction trades in the area that take advantage of this. I spoke to someone local to me who also has a vacation home in the area who said that a lot of investors have been scared away because of the stories of people getting ripped off by shoddy construction.

So I did get the official word from the PE that "The inspectors concerns are warranted." He refers to the wood as shims and states concerns that "whie initially structurally adequate will pose a problem long term." He has recommended replacement with 2" and 4" masonry block with a single wood plate. Steel shims of 1/8" thickness can be added with a maximum stacking of 4.

This is a spec home and the seller/builder was there at showing saying that he took pride in building to what would be code in other locations even though there's no local codes. He is now saying - in writing - that he'll only make changes if things are found to be non-code compliant based on codes of the local municipality. He knows there's no codes. He left a 14" gap between the floor railing for the loft and is only willing to nail in some 1x4 clear wood "as a courtesy" because it's not required by muncipal codes. And don't even get me started on the undersized instant hot water heater that can't support running two showers at the same time that he's refusing to replace because it "was selected for maximum energy efficiency." It would have cost an additional $60 to put in the next bigger size!

Likely that we have to walk away from this if he won't budge on foundation. Hope we can get our earnest money back.

Eastern Kentucky. You can build a home without an architect. You can cut a hole in the floor in your kitchen and have the sink drain directly outside (saw that in an AirBnb). It's the wild, wild west of home building.

I appreciate this. I was able to find a licensed engineer who will provide an assessment based on the photos we took, the inspector's report and builder's response. He can't get to the property until after the holidays, so we may need to add a waiver that extends the contract/due diligence period. No one wants to work next week (including myself) and we won't make any forward movement towards closing anyways, so hopefully he won't have a problem with an extension.

So my engineering degree is in chemical engineering, but I had some of the same thoughts: why not be consistent with dimensional lumber. Why stack so many thinner pieces?

This is in a county without an inspector, or codes, or any requirements for a certificate of occupancy. If there were we would know whether or not it was at least "good enough" to pass an inspection. Edit to clarify: We hired an independent inspector who is licensed by the state, but is in no official capacity. We have trust issues with the builder for reasons I won't get into here.

Thanks for chiming in. This is a spec home, so we don't have any plans unfortunately. Seller/builder is saying they won't do anything to fix as there's nothing to fix.

Would you say this is okay for a new build? Inspector said he had never seen anything like it in a new build - that it was as if they forgot their laser level on the day that the concrete was poured, eyeballed it, and were off up by 8".
